Hi, I'm looking for any info on James Samford/Sanford of Richmond/Old Rappahanock/Northumberland, VA who was born about 1624 and died in 1704 in Richmond County, VA. He is variously listed as the son of a William Samford/Sanford or as a son of Vincent Stanford/Sanford. I've never seen any real documentation that either one was his father. In Greer's "Virginia Immigrants", a Wm. Sanford is listed as having arrived in 1655 in Surry County, VA but I'm unsure if this William is the father of James. His wife's name was Mary. And I believe that her surname may have been Giles since two of their grandchildren had Giles as a given name: Giles Samford, son of Samuel Samford & Elizabeth Keene, and Giles Webb, son of Catherine Samford Webb & John Webb. I haven't found any other connection that would explain this particular naming pattern. Any thoughts or documentation that one may have on Mary's surname as "Giles" are greatly appreciated. Hello, I am searching for my husbands Sanford/Sandford/Samford line and cant get past his great great grandfather Ruffus Alexander Sanford who was born 1854 in Shelby County and married Joanna Jane Eaves. He is lost to us after 1909, we believe he died, and his burial place is unknown to me at this time. Shelby County Roots Web just added another section to their website, the Mexican War 1st and 2nd Texas Mounted Volunteers. On the list of the 2nd TMV I find a Name: Sanford, Thomas Pvt. Enrolled: Shelbyville Company D, May 21, 1846 Remarks: For six months Can anyone identify Thomas and give me a list of his children?
