I am the great granddaughter of Walter Alexander and Victoria Cleopatra Sanford. Their daughter Mary Catherine (Molly) was my maternal grandmother. I know little about my Sanford roots other than, the Westmorland connection and my grandmother having about 7 half brothers. Vernon was one of them (possibly the baby of the family). He visited with us when I was little. He went by the name Uncle Buzz! I believe a lot of the family lived in Suitland, MD. We are in Fort Washington/ Oxon Hill area. I would love more info. Charles, The name Absolum rings a bell with me, it was the name of my husbands great grandfather. I haven't gotten very far on the Sanfords. I am stuck on a Ruffus Alexander out of Shelby County Texas. he was born Jan of 1854. and could be just a generation or two removed from your absolum... Do you know the ones that came to Texas? I have a Thomas P. Sanford who was married to a Mary Rutledge. They had a son Hezekiah in c1780 in Rowan Co, NC but moved later to Greenville Dist, SC where Thomas died c1800. Hezekiah was married to a Priscilla Chambers and he disappeared c1821. He and Priscilla had two sons - Henry Chambers Sanford & Lemual J. Sanford and the family moved to Cherokee Co, AL c1830. I have a 2nd or 3rd gr grandfather named Hezekiah Sanford. He was married to Dolly Jane Latham. One of their children, Noel Sanford, married Malinda Padgett, and lived in Pickens County, GA. Hezekiah and Dolly Jane are buried in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Elijay, Gilmer County, GA. Noel and Malinda's daughter, Georgia Hester Sanford (1889-1935) m. Calvin Ezekiel Townsend of Gilmer County (1879-1950 or 52) and had 10 children, 7 girls and 3 boys. One of the girls, Gracie Jewell Pauline (12-17-09--2-07-66) m. 1) Lonnie Coleman Bingham (7/13/03- 2/27/68) (2)Clyde Ramsey 3)Rayoul Arnold Lackey (12/20/15-8/17/93). She and Lon had 3 children: Fannie Hester, Thomas Avery, Sr., and Wiley Coleman. Hester m. Silas Overstreet (7/18/11-4/17/92) and had 2 children, Frankie Jewell, (me) and Roger Wayne (6/3/49-3/27/68) who was killed in Viet Nam. Do you have info before Hezekiah? I'm looking for parents and back, and where he came from before he settled in Pickens County. For those of you who are descended from Zeba Sanford's granddaughter Eva Smith, this matters. ;-) I got the following from England last week: "William Hough, who is my great uncle, was born in Myerscough, Lancashire, UK, and not Warrington as you have shown. [which I transcribed from Calton's book.]   "His father, Simeon, taught at the village school, at Billsborough, Lancashire UK, near to the family farm where his Grandfather, another Simeon, started the Dynasty in this part of Lancashire.   "Simeon came from Prestbury in Cheshire in the late 1700’s where [h]is father, The Reverend Joseph Hough, was the vicar of Prestbury Parish church.   "I have substantial records of all the Hough’s including William who emigrated to Chicago marrying Eva Smith in New York in July, 1885." I have asked for more detail on dates, etc., will be adding it to the long-overdue-update to my website, and will be glad to share it with any descendants who might be on this list. -- David L. What a stroke of luck. I am researching Edward Benjamin. However, the census and other information place the birth year of Edward (b. abt 1826) after the death of his mother, Rebecca Ann Sanford (d abt 1817).
