    3. Thomas Sanford, by Carlton Sanford (1911) has this family documented to some degree in his appendix (vol 2, pp 1386-1393). He mentions a number of sources, etc. The widow Mary GORTON GREENE was Capt. John SANDFORD's second wife, four children each. 2. Hi, Sanford cousins Is anyone else working on the family of my Penelope Sanford, b. 1723 Eng., who immigrated to Va. in 1735? She married ( Va. 1756) Haden Edwards, son of William of Westmoreland Co. Va, and moved to Bourbon Co. Ky. with him in 1787. Haden died in Bourbon Co. in 1803. Penelope died in 1809 leaving a will in Logan Co. Ky. where she had been living with her grandson. Would appreciate hearing from anyone interested in this family. Thanks Marilyn Lewis

    2. This is interesting. I recently found out that my paternal great-grandmother was Nancy C. Sanford who married John Henry Coker in Tippah Co., MS around 1865. Nancy is listed on the 1850 & 1860 Tippah Co. census living with her parents, William B. Sanford & Elinder Sanford. WBS was born ca 1820 in NC and his wife is from SC. WBS was also a "hatter." I suppose that explains the continuing madness in my immediate family. Anyone with info about William B. Sanford or Isaiah Sanford of Walker Co, AL. (I believe they were brothers) please email me @ [email protected] Isaiah Sanford's granddaughter, Lucinda Sanford, married John Henry & Nancy Coker's son, Joel Hardy Coker of Union Co, MS on 14 Jun 1899. This may also explain some of the madness. Thanks.

    2. Hello SANFORD rooters: I haven't posted information on my line in a while. I hope some of the new subscribers can make a connection to my line of SANFORDs. My earliest known is Reden Israel SANFORD, b. c 1820 in GA. He married Margaret J. GIBSON in Marengo Co., AL in 1844 and they later moved to Mississippi. They had several sons, some of which moved on to LA and TX. You can find a complete list of names, dates and places on my web site: http://members.aol.com/sanfordepz I belive that the father of Reden was Jesse SANFORD. Jesse was born in NC c 1770. In 1830 he was living in Covington Co., AL. By 1840 he was in Marengo Co., AL. In 1850 he was in Lauderdale Co., MS. He was listed at age 80 and listed his occupation at as a "Hatter." Please check out the web page and see if you come across any familiar names. If you do, please contact me. Regards, Yancey Sanford

    2. Dear List Members, Jerry made me aware that I possibly came across like I was chastising some of you. I didn't intend to sound that way. I realize that some just don't have the time or the opportunity to participate as they would like too. No explanation or any such thing is necessary. I am sure that all of us understand that. I am pretty good at searching and researching and such but sometimes I come across rough when I don't mean to. I apologize if some of you take what I say this way. 1. Richard SANFORD, 16 generations to Richard SANFORD.
    2. John D. Sanford
    3. Richard SANFORD to Richard SANFORD, 16 generations. Our present direct line of ancestry is shown below, to give you an idea of this SANFORD family line. I am showing the 15 generations from Richard Sanford of Stanstead, Essex, England in the early 1500's, through one of my grandsons, Robert M. Sanford, now of Bremerton, WA. Much of this information for the first 10 generations is well covered with a great amount of detail in the two volume work, "Thomas Sanford, Emigrant to New England, Ancestry, Life, and descendants, 1632-4 etc." written by Carlton E. Sanford, and published about 1911. The two volume work is in many libraries across the country. Some libraries have them now, and some can get a microfilm on loan. Much of this in the form of "Pedigree Charts" is now available at LDS Family History Centers in the Ancestral files of their computers. Hope this information is useful to you, in the further search for SANFORD family records that you can use to further develop your own family data. I hope to hear from you, especially if there is more information on the generations #9 John SANFORD (1774-1844), and #10 Andrew SANFORD (1810-1892). My records are quite complete on these families, and on most of the details more recent to this date, but there are still some blanks in the family groups, the ancestors of the wives that married into the SANFORD family, and many of the family events, in those two generations. We would like for others to tell us of their own direct lines, because it is interesting to many, and spurs real discussion among those who have done past research and who have kept some serious SANFORD family records. Would be happy to hear from you and see your direct line for at least a few generations. John Sanford. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Descendant Chart of my direct line, John D. 3. Sandra; I admit that I have been a non producer for anything to the list for quite some time. I have been very busy the past few months taking care of my wife (surgery 3 times since March) who is in therapy for a knee replacement, looking after my 19 year old granddaughter (lives with us) after her shoulder surgery, and trying to keep myself going despite a lot of increased activity and a tough battle with severe authritis pains. I still take time to review my e-mail nightly (about 300 p/night) and reply to those which I can offer something plus trying (but not always succeeding) to review four genealogy news groups. There is quite a lot that I want to submit but that I just don't have the time to work into something meaningful. Things are beginning to smooth out a little now and maybe I'll begin to have a little more time to participate. 2. Hello to all, I have been at this for less than a year. So, you see I am very new. Also there has been so much talk on other list about people taking from others and not giving back. I just have been reading and hoping to become familiar enough to join in. I am more than willing to share anything I have, which isn't very much (as for as verified information). Most of what I have has come from family members and some from a few others that have been very kind in sharing. I have a full time job, not very much time to spend on family searching ( MY favorite past time - except for spending time with my grandchildren). I am not to a point where I can travel to do a lot of research. Any way I want to see this list continue - so here is some of my family information; John Sanford b-1787 SC married to Mary Wilson b- 1780 children of John and Mary; Derrell Sanford b- 1814 SC married to Mary ___? 2. Hello, 8/3/97 I am sorry to post this to the list, but I have tried three times to send an e-mail to the address. I was wondering if you SANFORD family might have lived or had relatives who lived in Orangeburg county SC in the area of the South Fork of the Edisto Rover and Robert's Swamp. This might be part of Bamberg Co. now. I am looking for Sarah SANFORD born ca 1770's to 1830 who married Wilson SANDERS in 1774. They lived in the swamp area with Wilson's father, Thomas SANDERS. Thank you, Delia Sanders Hord

    2. I have been going crazy searching for any background on these folks, maybe someone new has a link. Robert Sanford m Sarah Clark in Loudoun Co., VA 1801, daughter Mahalla born in 1802. Mahalla married a Stacey Lacey in Loudoun 1817. They moved to Licking Co., Oh 1828-30 and settled down. The Sanfords were buried in St John's Lutheran Cem, in Franklin Twp. I have searched in Loudoun records for Robert & Sarah's marriage and it has not turned up, perhaps they were from elsewhere in VA. If anyone has a Robert & Sarah in their line let me know. It's hard to believe that they had only one daughter. Stacey may have been a circuit rider, Methodist, can't confirm that. Barbara

    1. From List Owner--Please Read
    2. Hello Everyone, I received an email asking if I still was the owner for the list. The answer is yes. I really can't understand how it is so quiet. There are new people subscribing to the list all the time and I am sure they are wondering what is going on. I know that there are many experienced "rooters" on the list and I also know that there are several that have taken their lines to a point that they are near satisfied with what they have. But...there are many on the list that are not at this point and I feel that we should help them if we can. Unlike many lists I DO encourage exchange of information "on list" I know that there are several that feel that unless it is information that could be used by all it should not be posted to all. As you all can see, that results in a "dead list". So, as list owner I now say that everything should be posted to list unless it is of a personal nature. We HAVE to get the information flowing or this list will not served the purpose for which it was created. To satisfy the ones that don't want to see the info if it doesn't pertain to their lines I would ask that when posting these rules are followed. In the subject line always put the area you are speaking of and the surnames that you are concerned with in your posting. In this way the other list members can determine if they would like to read your posting or delete it as not being information they would be interested in. We have about 100 subscribers now. (You can see why I am concerned) If The reason for now using the list is the money request that was issued by Roots-L a while ago please be aware that they requested help only if you can afford it. So don't let that be a factor in using the list. I would like to suggest that we all introduce ourselves and let all know what are areas of research are. I know that all of you have not communicated with all the other and I am sure that there are "cousins" out there on the list that are not aware of each other. An example is myself. I have a dead end with my ancestors and although I know that the line comes from England I can find no reference for "my" Robert Sanford and Ann Smith who were married in London. Even though, I am not stopping with helping others with this list and the newsletter. I feel that this is what genealogy is all about, helping others. Please help me with this with this. Thanks to all Sandra Sanford G.
