    1. Re: Sanford>Tx>La, 1800's to 1930's (Long)
    2. Hi! I have a Greenberry Sanford, born Tuscaloosa County, Alabama between 1810 & 1820 who married my relative, Permelia Weaver. She was born Tuscaloosa County, Alabama May 06, 1823. They were married June 14, 1837. I've not had time to pursue this as it is a side line to me. If this is someone you need I'll look for more about them for you. Regards, Sandy Kizziah

    2. I think I can help you. My GGrandfather born 1844 in Tuscaloosa County, AL had a brother named Lewis Greenbury m. Mandy Short, all from Tuscaloosa County, AL. Lewis, I think, moved to New Albany, MS. Lewis Greenbury was born about 1846. Don't know, but with the Green connection, I bet you're related. I have more info if you think there might be a connection. Jean

    2. Hi Sherry, There is a lady in Lufkin, Texas who is researching Greenberry SANFORD who was born in 1814 in Georgia. He married Permelia (Melia) WEAVER in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama on 14 Jun 1837. According to family stories, Greenberry died in Orange, Texas during or shortly after the Civil War and Melia carried their adopted daughter, Mary Catherine, back to Tuscaloosa to live. Melia's brother, George J. H. T. WEAVER, a Civil War veteran and a young widower, fell in love with Mary Catherine and they were married 21 Apr 1871 in Tuscaloosa. It is believed that Greenberry SANFORD was related to Melia WEAVER but how close kin is unknown - his parents are unknown. She is not on the internet but if you would like her address, I will send it to you if you E-mail me privately. Also, here's some more snippets of "Green" for your collection. 2. Anyone recognize any of these Sanford/Stanford's? The Mary ?, mar. to Greenberry Sanford in Sabine Parish, La., may or may not be the same person as the Elizabeth or Bettie later in Cherokee Co., Tx. I suspect they are the same person, but Greenberry did have two marriages. I just found the N. Stanford family and I'm not sure if there are any connections there, but any time I see the name GREEN attached to any form of the name Sanford/Samford/Stanford/, I try to copy it. 2. I have been on this list for several months and have been quiet to this point. That is because I am very shy and didn't want to jump in over my head right away. Now I feel I have enough reliable info to share and to ask for your help. Here goes..... I have two branches of Sanfords in my paternal tree. I know that they had to be brothers, but until now I was not ready to start looking for their father. The following is what I believe to be true about their father and his ancestors and what I know to be true concerning the two sons (ISAIAH S. SANFORD & WILLIAM B. SANFORD) and their descendents. I believe their father was Absolom Abraham Sanford (married Catherine Snider) and that Isaiah was actually born in SC, about ten years after the family left NC. They ultimately moved to Tuscaloosa County, AL around 1818. AAS had a brother named Hezekiah P. Sanford (HPS). HPS was a veteran of the War of 1812. HPS & AAS were sons of Thomas and Levinah Sanford, who lived in SC during the Revolution, and the grandson of Thomas P. and ? (Rutledge) Sanford of SC. This Thomas P. Sanford fought in the Revolutionary War. Does anyone have any connections for me?: Isaiah S. Sanford (according to his Loyalty Oath after the Civil War) was born 12 Jan 1816 in Buncombe Co, NC - see comment above-. 3. You may already have the following from page 275 of Carleton Sanford's book, but just in case: 1018. Oliver Sanford, Jr. (Oliver 420, David 141, Samuel 35, Ephraim 6, Thomas 1) b. April 18, 1765; d. October 21, 1835, Poultney, VT; m. February 3, 1791, Catherine, dau. of Robert Green, b. Mar 2, 1775; d. 1846. Mr. Sanford was an early and prominent member of the Baptist Church, and for many years a deacon. He was a farmer in Poultney, where all his life was spent. On May 25, 1795, Oliver and Catherine Green Sanford signed a quit claimof all rights in the Susquehanna Purchase which had been willed by their father Robert Green to his children. The estate was distributed Aug. 29, 1846. (Hist. Society, Hartford, CT, Bk. C., p. 562.) They had 12 children, all born Poultney, VT [all listed]. > From: [email protected], on 8/14/97 9:15 PM: > Looking for the parents of Catherine GREEN wife of Oliver Sanford (Oliver, > David, Samuel, Emphraim, Thomas) She was born 2 Mar 1775 ?and died 1846 ?. > Her father may have been Robert. Does anyone have this info. They lived in > Poultney, Vermont and there was mention of a Robert there but no other > information. I am baffled. 1. More about mime
    2. This is another answer about Mime Subj: RE: Mime???? Date: 97-08-11 21:59:28 EDT From: [email protected] (Short, Dennis R.) To: [email protected] ('[email protected]') Sandra, This is usually a mail gateway problem between rootsweb and the user. MIME is multipurpose Internet multimedia extensions. MIME maps certain file extensions to the related software. MIME is most often encountered in Web Browsers but more mail systems [ MS Exchange] are using MIME to control and identified an attached or embedded [multimedia] files. MIME for example understands that .DOC is a MS Word file or other extensions such as RTF. If the user is AOL , AOL recently did major mail gateway. It is also possible for an inexperienced user to disable MIME on their mail program. This is usually controlled in the options or setup area of the program. Turning off attachments can also cause problems. If the digest has become longer than normal, some mail gateways will turn the text file into a message with one or more attachments that are MIME encoded. This can also cause problems if the mail gateway or users reader is not configured properly. Dennis Prof. Dennis R. Short Purdue University 1419 Knoy Hall, Rm. 363 W. 1. Re: Mime Problem
    2. Hello all, I am posting this to list for Yancey and any others who may be having problems with the digest mode. Sandra > The digests sent out by rootsweb are of Mime format. AOL converts them to a file called <unknown.mim>. You must download this file from AOL while reading your mail. (disreguard the virus message AOL prompts you with). You can either re-name the file to a name that you prefere such as <digest.txt> and open it for reading with any text reader of your choice, or you can download the file and leave it named <unknown.mim> and open it while in AOL using the File... Open... drop-down menus. Mark Whaley owner of the LYNN-ROOTS family discussion list

    3. Can anyone lend a hand? From: [email protected] (Mary P. Nielsen), on 7/14/97 1:02 PM: To: [email protected] I just found out that my great great grandmother's maiden name was Elizabeth Travis. She was married to William Sanford probably about 1843 or 1844. Their children were Sarah Adaline b. 1845, James b.1846, John b. 1848, Betsy Ann, b.1849, Emily b. 1855, and William b. 1857. I believe William Sr. died sometime between 1857 and 1860 and she may have remarried. I found the family in the 1860 but not the 1870 census. They lived in Middletown. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone? Sarah Adaline was married in about 1864 to William Dimmick. Betsy died in 1894 and in 1880 Emily was living with William and Sarah Dimmick. Looking for info on Elizabeth Travis and James, John and William Sanford, Jr. One of them lived in Michigan between 1910 and 1920 and his wife was named Jennie Mary [email protected] Dave Dickman [email protected] http://www.netcom.com/~softbear/my_pages.html

I'm not sure what the problem is, but it looks like some of the fundamental software libraries have been corrupted. The SmartList software and virtually all other packages on the server are critically dependent upon those libraries. I'll be doing a partial or full reload of the operating system on that box, and that will take me between 8 and 32 hours depending on how things go and how much coffee I can stand. That means we'll be down today and probably tomorrow, and Sunday we'll be playing catch-up. I think we'll be returning to fully normal operations by Monday. No mail will be lost -- all your users' posts are queued on our mail hub. The mail will just be delayed, and may arrive out of order. Karen and I are probably going to be pretty unresponsive to e-mail, because we're going to be kinda busy. Sorry about the delays in delivery, but we'll get this fixed much faster than UPS is getting its strike fixed. -B

    2. In a message dated 97-08-03 17:47:20 EDT, you write: << Barry, Sorry I can't help you. My Sanford line goes back to John Sanford, Born in 1605 in Alford, Lincolnshire, England. As a young man, he went to Massachesetts, USA. If anyone else on the list is connected with John Sanford who came from Alford, or has any information on his ancestors before 1605, please get in touch with me. Ken Sanford Duillier, Switzerland >> Ken, While I realize that you are looking for ancestors of John SANFORD, I am looking for ancestors of my SANFORD - Mary who married David KENYON. I would love to tie into a line that goes back to the early 1600s! Mary SANFORD would have been born in the early 1700s, and I believe that Mary and David resided in Charlestown, RI. Do you or anyone on the list know of this Mary? Any help or suggestions of a good source would be appreciated. Kim
