If the admin web page for your mailing list is on lists.rootsweb.com (most of them are, but the not the eWorld lists and not a handful of stragglers that are still due to be moved from where they are), you should know that lists.rootsweb.com is presently down. Brian is doing a hardware upgrade that was supposed to result in such a short down time that no one would notice. Instead, well, it's taking longer than planned, that's all I know. Well, I also know: our files are all safe, incoming messages are being safely spooled and not being lost. I expect we'll hear from Brian once the work is complete. Karen
Hello Everyone I have started yet another project. You can check out the new research page I have posted on line http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/4453/ I am going to attempt to take all the Sanford (Samford, Sandiford ect) information I can find and put it on this website. This will take time and will be an on-going project. I plan to list all the researchers who are concerned with each name. I do believe that eventually there will be a lot of cousins found. If you would like your Sanford line to be incorperated into this site I ask that you send me either a gedcom or text file. You can send it as an attached file if you would like. I do ask that all references and resources be included in your file. I am aware that there will be much conflicting information and I hope to make note of that info at the site. Wish me Luck!! Sandra

Hello all... I'm am looking for information on Robert Byron SANFORD b. c. 1900. He and his wife, Gladys settled in east Texas... but he was not born there. Some of his descendants live in northern Florida now. If you have some info, please respond directly to my e-mail address, as I am still having trouble with mime decoding on AOL. I'm new at both computer and genealogy so hope everyone will excuse errors or? I am researching the descendants and ancestors of Sarah Sanford. Married Rueben Inman 8 Mar 1862 in county of Medina, OH. James Inman, their son is my maternal grandfather. She was daughter of Lemuel J. Sanford and Louisa Rogers, gf Lemuel P. Sanford? Need wife's name etc. Would REALLY appreciate any help I may get. I can remember going to Sanford reunions when a child (somewhere in Ohio) but never knew until lately why. The Rogers came from Massachusetts.
Looking for connections to family of William H. Sanford b 1838; lived in north AL; served in 1st Alabama Cavalry (USA) during CW.
The 1840 Alabama Census for Tuscaloosa County lists a Greenbury Sanford. By 1850 census he is no longer listed, so has either died or moved somewhere else. The 1850 census lists my ancestor in Tuscaloosa County, Isaiah Sanford. Isaiah named one of his sons Lewis Greenbury (as I mentioned before). I have found that Sanfords love to name their children after relatives. I have found a cousin from New Albany MS descended from a brother of Isaiah. He also has Greenbury Sanfords listed in Mississippi. I feel there must be some connection between our Sanfords and yours. Also, there is an Absalom Sanford who was 75 years old living in Fayette County, AL during the 1850 census. Living with him were his wife Catherine, Thomas J. 24 years old, July A., 24 years old and two small children. We have reason to believe that Absolom is the father of Isaiah Sanford. Absalom can be traced back to the Revolution. Does anyone have info on this?

I want to thank all those great responses I got from my Greenberry Sanford query. I could be wrong but I think there are several matches. I'm pretty sure that the info. from Peggy on 1850 & 1870 Shelby Co., Tx. match my original Green Sanford I found in 1880 in Sabine Parish, La. Some of the dates of birth and places of birth vary, sometimes by alot, from one census to the next, but taking into consideration that census info. can be the fault of the census taker and/or the family giving the info. From 1900 Cherokee Co., Tx. census I see that neither Greenberry nor his wife, Elizabeth could read or write. I think there is a match from Pat Childs on the Greenberry, child of first marriage of Greenberry, Sr., b. abt 1877, married Mary Milbury Cannon in Nacogdoches Co., Tx. and died 2 July 1960 in Harris Co., Houston, Tx. The info. from Sandy and Shirley on Greenberry Sanford, mar. to Permilia Weaver are matches to one another. How or if this Green ties into my Green is unknown to me. I know my Greenberry did have two marriages, so is the Mary in Sabine Parish, La. & the Elizabeth/Bettie M. in Cherokee Co., Tx. the same person? Could Permila have been a first wife, or I was also wondering about the possiblity of the father, Thomas, b.Ga., age 35, in 1850 Shelby Co., Tx., being named Greenberry Thomas Sanford, or Thomas Greenberry and he perhaps was the person married to Permelia? Jean provided info. on Lewis Greenbury m. Mandy Short in Tuscaloosa Co., Ala., b. abt. 1846. Does anyone have any ideas on if there are any other connections here? Does anyone mind if I post bits and pieces of info. I've gathered on Sanfords', most of which are not the family I've been searching for, but I thought might help someone else here. Sherry

Don't have any more to go on than that-thanks for Your Help- Brent>> Brent, Whenever you ask for such information, it is useful for all the others on the list to know where the people were born, if you know that information. For example, if they were born in Conn., RI or Mass., I will take some time to see if they are in my family line. If they were born in most other states, like NC, VA., TX, etc. I know right away they are not in my line and I can't help you. Thanks, Ken Sanford Duillier, Switzerland
Incidentally, what P Thompson did not say, is that, when you have ancestors in Texas prior to statehood, Feb 1846, you are eligible to join the Sons of the Republic of Texas OR the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, depending on your sex. The SAR and DAR are lineage societies and quite prestigious, here, in TEXAS.
