    1. SANFORD, Lydia: Reeding CT
    2. Christopher Purple
    3. Hi ,I'm looking for information about this SANFORD line. I'm connected through Lydia Ann SANFORD and William SHEPARD. I obtained most of this information through the LDS Ancestral File. I have not yet begun to verify the lineage. The information for Lydia Ann and William is bang on. I'm hoping that the rest of the information is as good. I'm hoping that I can find someone on this list who will recognize some of these people and be able to provide a bit of corroboration. Each entry is the offspring of the previous entry. Any help will be much appreciated. Chris Thomas SANFORD b. 1607/1608, Hatfield, Broad Oak, Essex, England, m. 2. Hello Everyone, Just wanted to let you know that there are 2811 persons on the site, 1075 marriages. Of those persons there are 914 Sanford/Sandford/Samford's etc. I would venture to guess that I still have about three or four times this many waiting to be posted. I would like to let all know that the information that is uploaded is filtered so that only the name appears on living persons. Sandie

    3. Helen & Sue I checked my copy of Carleton E. Sanford's (CES) book. Concur with Sue re: William Sanford's children, no daughter named "Currance" nor are the Reeds that Helen mentioned indexed in CES. Cyrenus Sanford is CES #773. (Ezekiel 292, Samuel 103, Samuel 23, Thomas 5, Thomas 1.) He was b. 1775 in CT, d. May 28 1858, Buffalo Grove, IL, age 83; m. Anner Hubbel of Hubbel Hill, Delaware Co., NY... "Mr. Sanford removed from Connecticut to Hubbel Hill, where he resided twenty-four years. In 1834, he moved to Buffalo Grove, Ill., and became one of its earliest settlers. They had eleven children...." Of these, the second child, Albion Sanford, is shown as having married (first name unknown) Moats. Steve Stephen J. Sanford [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Susan.Burt Sent: Tuesday, September 30, 1997 3:53 AM To: INTERNET:[email protected] Cc: Helen Chamblee Subject: Fwd: Armentrout, Sanford, Reed Helen , Hello, double 5th cousin! (If I figure that right, and we have the same no. of generations from Wm. Sanford my 4gr father, by his children Charles Clark and Charlotte.) Besides the double descendancy, I consider William one of my most interesting ancestors since he and his wife Huldah (Hull) were among the 20 families who came to Delaware Co. to resettle it in the 1790's. I checked the partial copy of Carlton Sanford's genealogy of Thos. Sanford (imm. 1634?) and see a serious conflict in information, though. William's children are listed as Charles Clark, Phebe (b. Sept. 16, 1793), Amy, Polly Ann, Ziba, Betsey, John, Charlotte, William, Lucy, Roxana and Maransa. There is also a list of persons bequeathed to in his will, which matches so I think the list is complete. No Currance, and I think this is pretty accurate because of the will. Another possible conflict - the date they moved from Litchfield Co., CT to Delaware Co. is estimated as 1797. I don't know if there's info. on where children were born or something else to fix that date, though I think it's likely earlier. I don't have index to Carlton Sanford, but William Sanford's "distant-relation" Cyrenus Sanford is said to have come to Delaware Co. at the same time, so that could be the family. (Does anyone out there with Carlton know about Cyrenus? I got this info from "As the River Runs", a history of Halcottsville, which I heard to from another of William's descendants.) We also have information about Huldah Hull's family with a couple lines back to 1600's. Sue Burt [email protected]

    2. --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: Armentrout, Sanford, Reed Date: 97-09-29 01:53:13 EDT From: BambooBird To: SSanfordG Hi Sandra, While I was checking out the REED surname under keyword Roots on AOL, I saw a list of your newsletters, and browsed the first 4. I noticed on 1-4EX the "key" words of Sanford-Illinois-Hiram-J.B.Armentrout, under History of Edgar co, IL. I am just beginning to check out some of the background on my Sanford connection. I am related to Phoebe Sanford, born 1793 in Delaware Co NY. I have a book Reed and Related Families-Peoria County Area (IL) that lists her father as William Sanford. She has a sister Currance that marries Simon Reed in 1816. Also a sister of Simon and my Samuel Reed Jr, Lucy, marries Albion Sanford. The book does not show his relationship but I am guessing he is Phebe and Currances brother or cousin. There are several Hiram's in the Reed line (as in Hiram Reed). The book also mentions M.A. Armentrout and J.R. Armentrout. Would this small block of Sanfords be related to your family? I would love to have more info if you have it on this line. The above is basically all I know. Thanks, Helen Chamblee

If you visit and find something that you think could be an improvement please let me know. I am now working on reducing the size of the top of the page legend. Thanks to all Sandie

    2. --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] (Herman Sandford) To: [email protected] Date: 97-09-03 00:29:32 EDT Sandra, Good luck on your new venture. I have been putting off asking this question for a long time because I am relatively new and certainly unschooled in the arcane knowledge of genealogy on the net. My grandfather was Robert Stephen San(d)ford. He travelled from Louisiana to Arkansas in the 1870s and married my grandmother, Martha Edwin San(d)ford about 1877. He homesteaded land in Miller County, Arkansas and fathered three children (Adelia, George, and Alma) before his early death about 1885. He must have been in his early thirties when he died. He was buried at Rocky Mound Cemetery near Fouke, Arkansas, in an unmarked grave. I have a lot of information about his descendents but absolutely none about his ancestors. Helllp! Herman P. 2. --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] (jfrazier) To: [email protected] Date: 97-09-02 03:41:26 EDT the SANFORD lady I am interested in is the daughter of an Alabama State Senator Henry Chambers Sanford. She married a BEDWELL and they had a daughter, Mary L. BEDWELL. The only thing I'm positive of is: Mary L. BEDWELL m. Thomas FRAZIER. (1877-1878) 1880 Alabama Census Soundex vol. 4 ed 30, sheet 23 line 1, Cherokee County Thomas Frazier, white male, age 21 born in Alabama Mary Bedwell white, age 17, born in ala. Henry R., son age 2, born in AL Thomas married when he was 18 or 19 and his wife, Mary was 14 or 15. Henry Chambers Sanford had several daughters and every first name begins with an L. The enumerator spelled the names differently each year to make the chore more difficult. I have different reports from direct descendants. Even historical articles on Henry Chambers Sanford do not agree on the spelling of the daughters. Then to further complicate the search, the girls use a middle name or initial from year to year depending on the census. Which L. SANFORD, daughter married ? BEDWELL. (When and Where) Where in Alabama was their daughter, Mary L. BEDWELL born? I know there are a lot of cousins researching this line as I have read the lists diligently but to no avail. 1. Rootsweb fixed
    2. All's well now -- we're operating normally and should have the backlog cleared up by tonight. Here's what happened: I finished the hardware upgrade as planned at 4am this morning, but the server wouldn't run reliably. The problem was intermittent, and basically what that sort of thing does is force you to try replacing one component at a time until the server starts running smoothly. At about 11am, I'd narrowed the problem down to a specific cable in the server, which apparently has a broken conductor or a loose connection. Anyway, that cable is history now and the server is running fine.
