    3. Hi Everyone I would appreciate if all answers are sent to list. In this way many can contribute if they see something that they have information on. From: [email protected] (Dan Capps) Sandie.... I have searched most of my records & sources for Pernicia Slaughter and can find nothing new. I do have a zerox of a picture of "Fannie & John Slaughter Samford" No other information. I think I got the picture from Jackie Hilton who is Supt of Schools in Pineland TX. (from me: Can anyone validate that John Slaughter Samford's parents were Uriah Samford and Pernicia Slaughter? or Elkanah Samford?) One individual who puzzles me is George Crittenden Samford. He shows up in "Our Dead" (which is a cemetery listing for Shelby county) b. 13 Apr 1852 d. 24 Aug 1929 f. Elkanah Samford but he shows up in the family of William Amasa Samford. There is also an earlier George Crittenden Samford born in 1815. (Another of Elkana's children Mary Ann married a George Crittenden Bittick) Census 1880 Shelby Co. TX SD1 ED87 p. 45/24 #346 1860 census list J S age 6; 1870 census lists John S. age 17; NOT shown in Elkanah's bible record; Mazell lists as child of Elkanah's; There is a picture of an individual identified as John Slaughter Samford who appears to be about 60 to 70 years old.; Is he a twin of Josephine's?; Fannie Pearl Samford Stone, who was a grand daughter of Elkanah Sr. stated that there were several sets of twins in his family.

    3. I have this note at the website. I would appreciate any input anyone would have on this before I update the site Thanks Sandie From: Researcher David McCarley Suggests that entries for the children of Caswell Polk Sanford born ca 1775-1778 possibly in NC, should be checked: Specifically, my great great grandfather,John Morgan Sanford, Sr was indeed the son of 2 CONT Caswell Sr., but it does not appear possible that the Mary listed could have been John's mother (nor does she appear to be the mother of the older members of Caswell's 17 or so Children), that is unless Caswell's first wife was also named Mary Caswell Sr., appears to 2 have been married twice. The Mary that shows up in later census records suggests that she was too young to have been the mother of Caswell's older children. I suspect he had two sets of children, and I have been unable to find anyone who can say with any degree of certainty where the first wife's children 2 and Mary's children begin. Any clarification welcomed. Census give age as 72 in 1850 Listed on the 1802 tax digest in Jefferson Co GA along with a Benjamin, John, Samuel and Thomas Sanford

Also, if you have additional family information to add please email me with it. I am in the process of trying to simplify the site so it can be searched more easily and that will take time.. If there is a computer guru in the family who knows how to set up a simple search engine for the site and wants to assist please let me know. I have downloaded all the information but it will take time to organize it. Oh Well!!!!!! Later Sandie

    3. Ann, How many children does Carlton have listed for Ezekiel? I have 10 children born to Ezekiel Sanford and Rose Warner. I have Robert as the brother of your Thomas, the 4th child of Ezekiel. How many pages are there that cover the ancestry of Ezekiel? What size book is it? 3. Hi, I would like to have a copy of this book that is referred to "Descendants of Thomas Sanford". My husband is descended from the Thomas Sanford b. 1556 and Thomas b. 3 Jun 1695. Which one is the book about? Or is about another one maybe a brother to one of my husband's? There is also a book called "The Robert Sanford Family". Does anyone have a copy of this that I might get a copy of a page or two? 3. [The following is all from "Thomas Sanford," etc.; Carlton Sanford; 1911] Gershom Morehouse's (#159) son-in-law Ephraim Sanford (#206) was in the Royal Army during the revolution, and they fought opposite sides of the Battle of White Plains. This Ephraim repaired to England after the war, was granted a pension and lands in Canada. He drown in the St. Lawrence in 1806. His father was Ephraim (#63), who appears to have resided in Fairfield, CT all his life. The name is a common one in this family, with 20 or so in the index of the above work. The next two have more promise: Ezekiel Sanford (#61) (b. 1704, d. 1764) had a son Ephraim (#184, 1st cousin to the above Ephraim), but he was not part of the settlement of the estate in 1766. No other details are noted for Ephraim other than listing him as a child. This Ezekiel resided Stratford, CT. Ephraim (#229) was b. 1747, CT, was a Rev. War soldier, m. Julia Huff, d. 1836, Wayne, NY. It says he "removed from Luzerne Co., PA in 1793" and settled in Wayne, NY. At 12:52 AM 3/16/98 -0500, Bruce A. 3. Does this EPHRAIM SANFORD-TABITHA MOREHOUSE connection (see forwarded message) do anything for anyone? A file I read somewhere had Frederick Baley's "Early Connecticut Marriages" (p. 74) putting the date of this marriage at 1770. Was hoping it might be the Ephraim in the Pittston area of Pa. at the time of the Wyoming Massacre of 1778, but have no other data to make the connection. I see that the state library in Hartford has a collection on the Susquehanna settlements, but haven't found anything other than a roster of settlers on the net. >Descendants of Gershom Morehouse, Jr. > > 1 Gershom Morehouse, Jr. b: WFT Est. 1707-1739 d: January 22, 1805 in >Redding CT >.. +Ann Sanford b: February 15, 1731/32 in Redding CT m: WFT Est. >1746-1779 d: July 27, 1822 >.......... 2 Peter Morehouse b: February 27, 1749/50 in Redding CT d: >WFT Est. 1751-1840 >.......... 2 TABITHA MOREHOUSE b: July 04, 1752 d: WFT Est. 1768-1846 >.............. +EPHRAIM SANFORD b: May 25, 1750 in Fairfield CT m: WFT >Est. 1768-1794 d: 1806 in Canada >.......... 2 Ezra Morehouse b: April 15, 1754 in Redding CT d: WFT Est. >1755-1844 >.......... 2 Billie Morehouse b: June 02, 1756 d: WFT Est. 1757-1846 >.......... 2 Aaron Morehouse b: June 02, 1758 d: WFT Est. 1759-1848 >.......... 2 Jane Morehouse b: November 07, 1760 in Redding CT d: WFT >Est. 1761-1854 >.......... 2 Anna Morehouse b: Bef. 3. Anyone give me a hand with something that seems to be very straightforward but is not working? Checked out rootsweb help site listed in initial list subscription message. Seems to me that I'm following instructions, but keep getting error message that says "unknown command This", followed by description of a procedure that doesn't match what I see on rootsweb help page. What I've been doing: 1.sending to L-request 2. typing "archive" (without the quotes) as subject 3 as message, typed "get latest/*" (without the quotes, also tried using a number instead of the *), OR typed "search Ephraim latest/*" (without quotes, looking for Ephraim Sanford, so used Ephraim as what to search for. Also tried using a number instead of *) Have also tried including "quit" (no quotes) at end. Didn't help. Have successfully used the search engine referred to on that same rootsweb page. Does that retrieve messages from the same database (except that it doesn't seem to allow to search for 1998 messages)? Thanks in advance to any kind soul who bails me out. Bruce Rockwell

I presume there was one give to Mrs. WPS also and am looking for it. The one I had was given to his oldest daughter, Marion Sanford SCOTT and perhaps Mrs. WPS's ring was given to one of Marion's siblings. John

    1. Rootsweb problems
    2. SSanfordG
    3. Hi everyone, If you are having problems with the list this might explain it. Sandie Subj: Serious Problems Out on the Net (and at home) Date: 98-03-09 20:03:43 EST From: [email protected] (Brian Leverich) Reply-to: [email protected] (Dr. Brian Leverich) To: [email protected], [email protected], STATE-COORD- [email protected] CC: [email protected] (Dr. Brian Leverich) As many of you have undoubtably noticed, the last week has been a mess out on The Net. Starting one week ago, some clown has been strobing all the hosts and routers on the Internet with an attack that is fatal (locks the machine such that it has to be power cycled to restart) to Win 95 and Win NT boxen. While this didn't directly affect RootsWeb (we're wall-to-wall Unix servers), it did kill one of our network neighbors' NT server. Unfortunately that NT server was providing reverse DNS for some of RootsWeb's boxes, so the NT server's repeated crashes caused major problems for us. It especially slowed mail deliveries from our list servers. To deal with this problem, the NT server has been "patched" to reduce its vulnerability to attack and we have taken various other technical measures to make us safer. Last night at 2am Sprintlink, with no warning to any of its customers, attempted to upgrade the operating systems on its backbone routers throughout the country. Things went badly south, and the Net is still very much crippled right now. The Sprintlink disaster essentially disconnected pieces of RootsWeb from The Net for several hours until we could adjust our routers to work around the down pieces of Sprintlink's backbone. As the Sprintlink disaster rippled through The Net, it also took down the routers at our feed from CRL. That happened while Karen and I were away from our keyboards, and the CRL down wounded our main list server. Some mail was lost, and we suspect some digests were damaged. We'll be fixing things for a few days. ): Ultimately there is no way that an individual site can insulate itself from a mess like last night, but we will be able to better protect ourselves as RootsWeb grows and operates more T1 connections to more Internet backbone carriers. Finally, this morning at 10am the textbase harddrive in the search engine box glitched and wedged, killing that server. Karen and I were working at that machine's console to revive it when the CRL link went down, which was why we couldn't save the mail server. Disk problems like this should go away as we upgrade all our servers to using redundant RAID-5 disk arrays, rather than depending on single drives. *sigh* Thank goodness weeks like this don't happen too often. As noted above, we'll be doing what we can to insulate ourselves from these sorts of problems in the future. One other thought: Karen and Brian will be away from our consoles all day tomorrow traveling on business that is critical to RootsWeb's future. It worries us a lot to leave the servers without someone physically at the consoles, but there will be some great sysadmins monitoring the site remotely and we think the potential benefits of this trip outweigh the risks of leaving the servers for a day. We apologize in advance if anything goes wrong, and we will be back late tomorrow night in any case.
