I have the Sanford Immigrants list (since 1620-1880) with the source of information posted on my homepage "Sanford Family Homepage" at http://members.aol.com/Scotchy2/index.html Click on the link to Immigrants to go there. If you know of any free access non commercial websites where they have the Gedcom files for these immigrants please let me know. I intend to make each immigrant a link to their Gedcom ( I already have Thomas, Andrew, and Robert). Pam (Scotchy2)
Hi everyone, I found some information which will provide a link for my files and I need your help to find out which person this is for sure before I enter it. I asked before about a Betty Sanford and Edward Washington. This confirms that information but I am not sure which Edward was her father. Thanks Sandie >From Chronological List of Northern Neck Grants; page 74. Edward Sanford awquired Thomas Triplett's land called Barnaby, and it was devised in his will dated 6 Jun 1811, to his three surviving children, Margaret, Joseph and Katherine Sanford and to the heirs of his deceased daug Elizabeth Hough Sanford, formerly the wife of Captain Edward Washington. The executors divided the land into four large lots and two small ones (See Russell, "Pohick Close," pp 44-45
Dear SenecaJ, Yes, there is a lot of information on parts of that line. I am a descendant of Ezekiel SANFORD, son of 'Thomas SANFORD, the immigrant'. My 'direct line' of ancestry is shown below for your information. I would like to see your 'direct line' down to at least yourself. At the present time I have the records of more than 60 of different lines of the descendants of our Ezekiel SANFORD, and I will share any part of it, if you wish to have the information. Your Stephen SANFORD is #164, on page 142 of the "Thomas Sanford books". His son John SANFORD, is #491, and it gives only his birthdate of Oct. 4, 1772, Redding, Ct. If you'd like any of this information, or facts on any of your John's ancestors, I would be happy to provide what I have on them. We have four other living cousins' records, who share that entire line with you - through Joseph Sanford #58 - and all of those before Stephen #164. It was nice to see your message, and I hope to hear from you directly. You may have the names and addresses of the others who NOW share you ancestral line through Joseph. Hi again I just ran across a reference notation that was cut off before it was finished. Evidently there was a problem with the program that generated my ged. Hopefully there are not too many like this. I will be correcting this very soon. Thanks Sandie

i also have Ezekiel Sanford in my line' Samuel, born 1798 is where my Sanford line starts and then to John, Stephen, Joseph, Ezekiel, Ezekiell, Thomas, Ezekiel, Thomas, Richard, Richard, Hugh, Richard, John, Richard, Nicholas De Sanford, Richard De Sanford 1307 Do anyone know anything about this line of Sanfords [email protected]
I have very little on John; he is not known to be related to the Sanford brothers (Thomas/Robert/Andrew) from whom I descend. However, he IS mentioned in the appendix to Carlton Sanford's work "Thomas ... the Emigrant ..." with over 170 of his descendants. The beginning of Carlton's entry for him reads as follows (Vol. 2, p. 1386): "1. JOHN SANFORD (SAMPFORD), son of Samuel and Eleanor Sampford of Alford, Lincolnshire, England, d. 1653, Portsmouth, RI; m. (1) Elizabeth Weed, sister of Henry, a rich Boston merchant; m. (2) Bridget, daughter of William and Ann Hutchinson ..." The entry continues for the better part of a page, and is followed by numerous sources. As Carlton published in 1911, and John was not on the top of his list, I do not know how accurate his information is. Please let me know if any of this is helpful. Hi, I read on a bulletin that you will help to find clan members. I have run into a wall I am trying to trace my husbands family back in Scotland and I'm not sure where to look anymore. Any help would me appreciated. We have the line traced back to John Carmichael born 1660 in Lanark, Scotland, died in 1730 and married to Anna Kincaid. They had two sons James b. bef.Jul1680 and William b. 12Jan1680/1 1st wife Agnes Young, 2nd wife Martha. I hope you can help me or point me in the right direction. Thank you Deena Carmichael [email protected]
Hi All, I am doing my best to get an update ready for the site. I am checking for duplicates etc. right how. I thought it would be ready before this but keep running into things that need adjusting, such as a couple of families I found just this am that are listed twice each from a different researchers files that were received. Once under Sanford and once under Samford. If you have found things such as this now is the time to let me know. I now have 10717 persons in the database and over 4000 marriages. I have included a lot of source material that I previously didn't have. Since I subscribed to geoplus there is ample room to include more information which I am doing. I am eliminating a lot of the graphics on the new upload. Since information and research is the prime purpose of the site I feel that the elimation of some of these will help in time loading the site. I can also elimate the family group and search function (use the surname list only) and possibly help in this aspect also. I need some input/thoughts about this. Thanks for your time Sandie
Some readers of this list may like to know I have access to the following reference: Source: New England Historical and Genealogical Register, No. 103, 1949 pp 208-216; 271-277 PRESIDENT JOHN SANFORD (c 1600-1653) OF PORTSMOUTH, R. ANDREWS MORIARTY, A.M., LLB F S A --------------------------- Does anyone know of research after 1949 which sheds light on the English origins of John Sanford, who came with the Winthrop fleet in 1630/31? In Moriarty it is stated that " his English origin is not known", though Suffolk or Essex is indicated. I can look up individuals in the John Sandford line, for those following early New England SANFORD lines, and e-mail extracts. Paul Sandford (Researching SANDFORD, DYER, VAVASOUR in the UK and India)

You will find him listed as a descendant of Robert Sanford (Thomas' brother), under "Other Pioneer Sanfords; Robert Sanford (Pioneer)" on pages 1339-40. The entry for Nathan starts as follows: "56. NATHAN[5] SANFORD (Thomas 27, Thomas 16, Ezekiel 4, Robert 1) b. Nov 5, 1777; d. Oct 17, 1838, at Flushing, LI; m. (1) Eliza Van Horn; m (2) Mary E. He entered Yale College in 1793, where he remained two years. In 1799, he was admitted to the bar in NYC. Early in his career he dropped the first "d" in the name Sandford "to save time," as he put it. In 1800, he was appointed a commissioner in bankruptcy. In 1803 he became the US Attorney for the southern district of NY, which position he held for twelve years ..." Does the Robert Sanford Genealogy have Ezekiel's line? Carlton indicates he moved to Southampton, Suffolk, NY from Hartford, CT as a young man, and added that "d" that Nathan (and some others) later dropped. David L.
