Ken Bush >> Ken- My Isaiah Sanford is a brother to your William. Isaiah stayed in Alabama while most of his brothers and sisters moved on to Texas. Absalom Sanford and Lavina Turbeville are the parents of Isaiah and William. Absalom stayed in Alabama and was living with his youngest son, Thomas Jefferson Sanford and his family on the 1860 census in St. Clair County, AL. (1830 and 1850 censuses find him in Tuscaloosa Co., AL). I have received quite a bit of information from other researchers that I will be happy to send you. I cannot prove anything beyond Absalom, but will be happy to share. It appears from what I have gotten from others, our line of Sanfords came from VA through SC, on to Alabama and Texas and who knows where else. The earliest Sanford ancestor that I have in my database was one William Sanford born in 1602 in Rappannock Co., VA. No record of his parents or when they came over. It would surprise me greatly if the Northern bunch is not somehow another branch of our line. Hope others have more info. Jean Coan
Concerning the Sanfords (Samfords) from the north and the south: I am from the Samfords in Shelby County (East Texas) and we have been there since before 1820. William (Little Billy) Samford came from Alabama before that. I know from the the newsletter that there are many Sanfords in the northeast as well. My question is: Has anyone determined if there is a common link between the two areas and who it is? I do not do this on a full time basis and I have only gone back as far as William. Ken Bush

I'm interested in all Sanfords who were in the Caldwell, NJ area at or before 1800. They might be listed as living in Newark, Acquackanonk or Caldwell. Thanks- Bev Crifasi

Hello All Interested in any information on GIDEON SANFORD? I have him living in Broadalbin, Fulton County in 1850. Family may be from Pittstown, Rensselaer County. Richard [email protected]
Folks, when you post inquiries or answers about SANFORDS, Please tell what STATE you are talking about. I realize the biggest share of folks are dealing with SOUTHERN SANFORDS, but others (like me) are researching in the NORTH, and can't tell from the postings whether we should follow them up or not. Not meaning to start anything, but this does lead to problems. Lola
Hello Everyone, I just made a search thru the archives and found the offensive email that was being sent. I am not sure what I will do so that this will not happen anymore. I have sent a couple of emails asking for a solution to the problem. I cannot tell you how much this upsets me. I have tried to make this a very productive and helpful mailing list and then some jerk comes along and does this!!! Bear with me for a couple of days and I will see what I can do. Thanks Sandie

I always thought that only list subscribers could contribute. Sandy often forwarded on inquiries from non-members. I surely would prefer that, but I recognize it causes more work for the list owner. Another small annoyance about how the list works now. If you click reply, your message only goes to the inquirer, and others on the list don't get to share information. Is there anyway to change the default reply to the list address? Thanks. OK, what can we do to keep these spammers off the Sanford list? Sanford I love, airlines, cable tv and condoms I do not. Isn't there some way to restrict rootsweb lists so that only those who are subscribed can post? I hate to have to do it, but if we can't restrict the postings, I'm out of here. Richard O. She was concerned that others may try to contact her, and she just will be unable to get any email messages for a few days probably. She prepared and distributed the "Sanford Newsletter" for a long time now, and is well known by so many of us who have been interested in SANFORD family records. If you have sent a message to her very recently, or wish to contact her, it will be a few days before she can respond.
