I seem to have started this discussion on Mary Shelton and Joseph Sandidge, so -- I can only find a record of a marriage between Elizabeth Wright and Joseph Sandidge. That is, the bond was filed on Feb. 11, 1782 in Louisa County; I haven't seen anything on the wedding itself. Yet, I keep getting told by lots of people that Joseph Sandidge married Mary Shelton, daughter of William Shelton and Lucy Harris, on Feb. 14, 1782 in Louisa County, and it is highly unlikely that there were two Joseph Sandidges in Louisa who got married in mid-February of 1782. Now I am told by others that William and Lucy Shelton didn't have a daughter named Mary! Also, I keep seeing that Joseph Sandidge and Mary Shelton had the following children: Ralph Shelton, Martha, Mary C. and Candace. Mary C. Sandidge was my gggrandmother. The most authoritative source I can find for this Shelton-Sandidge family comes from an article written by Samuel W. Hughes on the Sandidge family and published in Tyler's Quarterly. I found it in a FamilyTreeMaker CD, so I can't quote the issue and page, as they are not given. Unfortunately, Joseph Sandidge did not name his wife in his will, so she must have died before him, and I haven't found any reference to her. Does anyone have any source for the Joseph Sandidge-Mary Shelton marriage that is better than Tyler's? There must have been a good reason for Joseph Sandidge to name a son Ralph Shelton Sandidge, right? Does anyone know of a primary source naming Joseph Sandidge other than the marriage bond and his will? Help! Ethel Smith
