    1. [SANDIDGE-L] PULLIAM-Joseph Penn and Elizabeth Holliday/Holladay/Holloday
    2. Hi, can anyone on this list add to the puzzle. thanks, josie Joseph Penn, who first married Mary Taylor, (my direct ancestors) married Elizabeth Holliday/Holladay/Holloday, daughter of Benjamin Holliday/Holladay/ Holloday, as his second wife between 1757 and 1761. I previously knew that he remarried Elizabeth __?__ between 1757 and 1761, however I did not know that her maiden name was Holliday/Holladay/ Holloday. Bobbye also says that Elizabeth's first husband was Patterson Pulliam (who must have died prior to 1761) and that there was a marriage record of Patterson Pulliam and Elizabeth Holliday's marriage in which Benjamin Holliday, father of Elizabeth, gave his consent. While there may be some truth to this rumor (i.e., Joseph Penn's second wife may have been a Holliday/Holladay/Holliday) who may or may not have been previously married to a Pulliam, I seriously question whether there is a marriage record in existence regarding the pre-1757 marriage of Patterson Pulliam and Elizabeth Holliday. I have been trying to check this information out. Here is what I have found: 1. There is a 1767 deed in Spotsylvania Co., VA from John Penn and Elizabeth, his wife, "of Spotsylvania County", son of Joseph Penn and Mary Taylor, to John Holliday. There is a 1770 deed in Spotsylvania Co. between the same parties except John and Elizabeth Penn as described as being of "Amherst County". 2. Phillip Penn, son of Joseph Penn and Mary Taylor, married Martha Holliday (parents unknown to me). 3. I discovered that there was a Patterson Pulliam who died in Spotsylvania Co., VA in 1758. There is reference to his Administration Bond in Will Book B, page 363 and his Inventory and Appraisement in Will Book B, page 368. No indication about the name of his wife. I wonder if the Administration Bond had the name of his wife as an administrator? 4. There is a Thomas Pulliam who died in 1758 in Spotsylvania Co., VA. His will was probated in 1758. The reference is Will Book B, page 369. Other estate references are in Will Book B, page 370, 372, 388 and 397. What was the name of his wife? 5. An abstract of the lawsuit of Robert A. Coleman and Mary Coleman, his wife, v. Lewis Holliday in the Fredericksburg District Court in 1807 can be viewed at "http:// www.rootsweb.com/~vacfrede/crd/fbdc_h.htm" (you have to click on the "Holladay/Holliday/Holloday" index headings to find the document). It apparently discusses a property dispute involving 5000 acres of land in Spotsylvania Co., VA which was originally granted to James Taylor in 1722. My interpretation of the tracing of this property goes like this: a. Deed of James Taylor to John Holladay in 1729; b. Devise by John Holliday in his will dated 1742 to Joseph Holliday and Benjamin Holliday. John Holliday may have died in King William Co., VA or there is some other King William Co., VA connection related to this devise; c. Deeds of Joseph Holliday and Benjamin Holliday to Zachary/Zachariah Lewis in 1746-1747; d. Devise by Zachary Lewis to Benjamin Lewis by will dated 1764/1765; e. Deed of Benjamin Lewis to Betty Littlepage, widow of James Littlepage, in 1773; g. Deed of Betty Littlepage to John Lewis in 1774 (part of property); g. Betty Littlepage married Lewis Holliday, giving him an interest in remaining part of the property; i. Deed of Lewis Holliday (and Betty?) to Joseph Holliday 1778; j. Devise of Joseph Holliday to Benjamin and James Holliday by will in 1795 and deeds from the executors of Joseph Holliday to Benjamin and James Holliday to complete this devise. There is a Ged Com file on the Halliday family at in the World Ancestry Tree site (#10901) submitted by "nuttybet@aol.com" at "http://www.ancestry.com" which gives the Holliday genealogy going back to Edward Haliday, born circa 1482 in Gloucestershire, England. The 7th generation of this chart shows a John Holladay/Halliday, born 20 April 1676 in Jamestown, Virginia, died 4 Nov. 1742 in St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co., VA who married Ann Elizabeth Lewis. It lists his children as: 1. William H. Holladay, born 1705, married Judith Holladay about 1735, died about 1769. 2. John Marshall Holladay, born about 1708, married Tabitha Collins (1st) and Elizabeth Rawlings (2nd), died 11 Apr. 1781. 3. Winnifred Holladay, born 1714, married Thomas Pulliam about 1735, died before 1758 4. Elizabeth Holladay, born about 1716, married Patterson Pulliam (1st), JOSEPH PENN (2nd), died 6 Mar. 1797. 5. Sarah Holladay, born abt. 1718, married John Rawlings (1st) and James Rollins Rawlings (2nd), died 15 Feb. 1788. 6. Susannah Holladay, born abt. 1724, married John Graves (1st) and Mr. Rawlings (2nd), died 12 Oct. 1795. 7. Daniel Holladay, born abt. 1725, married Agnes Matthews about 1749, died 30 Sept. 1784. 8. Joseph Holladay, born about 1726, married Mary Fannie Johnson (1st) and Elizabeth Lewis (2nd) about 1748, died 24 July 1795. 9. Benjamin Holladay, born 7 Mar. 1730, married Susannah __?__ (1st) and Susanna Hickman (2nd) and Fanny Susanna Johnson (3rd) on 20 Jan 1743/44 and Tabitha Collins (4th) in 1777, died 21 Mar. 1785. josie
