    3. As I recall, "Nitram" on our Sandidge Line had an extensive list of the Confederate family members from Mississippi and Louisiana. In Amherst County, Virginia, the sons of Dudley Sandidge (Richard, Valentine and one other) served in the 51st Virginia Infantry, Co. G. When other companies were giving themselves militant nicknames, Co. G called itself "the Floyd Gamecocks," suggesting that in the early years, at least, they had some sense of fun. (Floyd was the location of their training camp.) By the end of the war, Richard and Valentine were both prisoners of war at Fort Delaware. Richard was captured late in 1864 in Winchester and Valentine in March of 1865 at Waynesboro, Virginia when 7,500 cavalry under George Custer surrounded the remnants of Wharton's Division, then consisting of only 750 men. ---------- From: ALIMM@aol.com To: SANDIDGE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: A Confederate Prayer Date: Thursday, December 10, 1998 5:42PM Francis Marion Sandridge, son of Nimrod, grandson of Nathan Sandridge of Franklin County, TN was a Confederate Soldier from TN.
