St Clements. St Mary. St Peter. Sandwich was one of the original Cinque Ports and was important until the River silted up. The first fort that the Romans built after they invaded England in 55BC was just outside Sandwich at Richborough. At one time a lot of Huguenot families settled in Sandwich when they left Belgium & France. I suggest you get in touch with Meresborough Books, 17 Station Road, Rainham, Kent. ME8 7RS to see if they have a history of the town and/or articles from their monthly "Bygone Kent". Good Luck.............. Dick....
