I too would like to comment that i have so enjoyed the information posted by judith and carolyn to the list. it is especially interesting to see who are the neighbors of all of these people. i thought it was a point to remember that Dr. Thomas Walker was a neighbor to William Sandidge (Eliazabeth Graves). I saw the name Woods there also. I am sure that the Woods name is tied to the Woods of the Woods Grant in present day Augusta and Pulaski County va. and we all know about Dr. Walker and James Preston and the loyal land co. I recall too that JAmes Madison lived in the neighborhood of Dr. Walker. Then when we add the Merriweathers and Lewises what a bunch of "lets see over the mountain men" lived in that area. This brings me to the point that Rita asked me over a month ago to comment on. Here goes: Ann Pulliam Martin Sandidge married second in 1754 i think to Joseph Martin,Gentleman. His will is recorded in the same county we are speaking of above: I have the will of Joseph Martin, probated 1762 in Albermarle County and he lists 5 sons and 6 daughters: all by name and his present wife Ann (Pulliam) (Sandridge) Martin. The mother of his children was Susannah Chiles (died prior to 1754) 1 Brice Martin 2. William Martin 3. Joseph Martin (born Sept 9, 1740 and died Dec 18, 1808 Henry Co, VA) 4. John Martin ( he was bequeathed 300 hundred acres of land lying and being on Piny run near Buck Mountain 5. George Martin And then he names his 6 daughters: Sarah Burrus, Mary Hammock, Susannah Martin, Martha Martin, Ann Martin and Olive Martin. Some speculate that the daughter Ann might belong to our Ann. i doubt it. But here are some of the things i wonder about. The joseph Martin Jr was Col. Joseph Martin who was married many times and took the indian wife who was famous. i think her name is nancy ward. some of you will know more about her than i. Are these Martins the ones who established the famous Martin Station on the wilderness trail that gave refuge to the first settlers going into ky. and are these the same martins who intermarried with the people of the postings of the past days?? if ann pulliam sandidge martin died in Louisa co. who did she go back to live with-- david sandidge??? Rita, i salute you for working so hard to keep the list going. it is interesting to read even when i am not closely connected to these people. i am a powell researcher---anns daughter mary married anthony gholson jr their daughter sarah married charles powell, his parents were Charles and Betsy Powell of Stafford Co. va. Ambrose powell traveled with dr. walker when he named cumberland gap, walker mt., and also the great valley we still call today POWELL valley. i think my charles is related to Ambrose and Benj powell. they were sons of Robert Powell and SArah Taylor. Sarah Taylors mother was frances Walker. Robert Powell had a son Charles but his wife in land records was sarah and my charles powells mother was elizabeth. if not for that, i would like that charles powell was Ambroses brother. History states that Ambrose craved his name on a tree at every camp site and 100 years later the name "powel" could still be seen in the old trees. he begged dr walker to name something for him and what a fitting tribute dr. walker gave him. Ambrose was an orphan who i think maybe james madison took interest in and helped raise. Betty www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5792
