    3. Names changed according to sounds and who was writing them -- a German would use their spelling methods while an Irish person used theirs, etc. Yes it is a possiblitity that Sanerage could have been from the family of the other spellings. We find it in the USA and elsewhere too. Now most of the ones I have met here in the USA were already here in 1790 so these persons wouldn't be a direct ancestor, but could be a relative from a very very distant ancestor of ours who descended from a common ancestor way back 1750's or before, etc. The reason mainly I sent this is NOT because these people are direct blood ancestors of ours (unless you originated in England, etc. after 1850) but because we have been trying to get a foot-hold on the different areas on that side of the Atlantic to see if we can locate where our ancestors DID come from, or at least places where they stayed and maybe, just maybe, we can find the proof we have all been seeking on who the parents are of our common ancestor who was first to step foot in America. For instance -- if John Sandwich/Sandidge,etc. came from Ugborough-DEV England in 1760 with his wife, then our trying to find his parents in church listings in London -- well, we might be FAR off. But if we looked in the Ugborough-DEV area church records going on this "lead below" and we found him with his parents names -- then this would be a gold-mine of a find!!! With each lead, then someone might find our answers and the proof we are all seeking. I remember that all my life I have been told by my grandmother and father that we are descendants of both Pocohantas (not Sandage side of family) and the Earl of Sandwich (which Hawaii was named for). Although I know that the Earl of Sandwich could NOT be my ancestor because he was the 4th Earl, his name was John Montague, and we were already in America when he was born and in power (my ancestors were already found in 1790 in Union Co SC and said that we came from Albemarle Co, VA (not proven yet) it is STILL a lead because it is ALWAYS that slim possibility that the 4th Earl of Sandwich's grandfather or gr-grandfather was our ancestor's uncle or parent, etc. and he changed his name to Sandwich before coming to America, etc. -- it is ONLY a lead on where to look overseas. Sometimes we have to grasp at straws in the beginning and hope we get the right one. I hope I answered your question.
