    1. KEZIAH SANDIDGE
    2. Hi Everyone, I am new to the list and hoping to find some information on Keziah Sandidge who married Jackey Carter in Amherst Co., VA on Jan. 22, 1803. The following was listed in Amherst County, Virginia Deed Books A,B,F, Names beginning C,D and Courthouse Miniatures compiled by Bailey F. Davis: "163 Jan. 22, 1803 Jackey Carter (Cater) & Keziah Sandidge. H: Consent of Fanny Carter.W: Pulliam Sandidge. SW: Jno.; Joshua, and Jas. Sandidge; Saml. Garland." My 4th ggrandparents were Jack Carter and Keziah (LNU) who were born in VA and living in Amherst Co., VA ca. 1824/25 ; were living in Wilson Co., TN ca. 1834 and then in Graves Co., KY from 1840 until their deaths. I have no information on their parents and siblings and am tracking any possible leads. I found the above information and was hoping for more information which might match Jackey and Keziah with my Jack and Keziah. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cindy ralphferret@sprintmail.com

    3. Jim, Would you mind giving the info you have on Daniel after he got to IL. I think you told me he was married to Permelia Tate in Casey Co, KY, is that right? She died and he moved to IL. Is there any indication why he moved to IL? Did he join family members already living in IL? Any help you can give would be most appreciated. Thanks, Richard Sergeant

    3. Dear Group, Thank you for the replies to my questions. Because I cannot yet find a "front door" to solve my Sandidge mysteries I have had to resort to "collateral" back doors. It has worked well in the past. I would like to take time to say that I subscribe to several surname lists but the Sandidge list has some the most fascinating interplay. I loved the Ann Pulliam/Ann Taylor debate. Of course the historical info that Kim Moore presented was great. So like I have said, I am a little envious of the "tight" family histories you have. But I am certain that I will find the connection. And no, my connection to the Sandidge family will not be as direct as most of you. Josephine, I saw one interesting name in the family group you listed. It was Charles Clayton Sandidge. The Clayton name shows up in IL with one of Robert Sandidge's children marrying a Clayton. Coincidence perhaps, but I still follow up on these things. I was also wondering if anyone does follow-up on the collateral lines to Sandidge. For instance, I have an Ann Coleman who married John Yates, abt 1785 in Caroline, VA. I am curious if this might be the same family from which Patience Coleman came. The only marriage I have found into the Sandidge family from the Yates is the Isaac P. Yates to Mary Wood Sandidge marriage. The interesting fact here is that Isaac Yates' mother was Susannah Wood. So then I wonder if Susannah is a sibling of Mary "Molly" Wood who married John Sandidge. And so it goes..... Thanks for listening. If anyone has done collateral line work please let me know. And if it is something that is not suitable for this discussion group please contact me privately through my e-mail. Richard Sergeant

    3. Richard, Searched my records readily available and have no children listed to Isaac Yates and Mary Wood Sandidge. I have a few other records to check so, if I find anything, I get it to you ASAP. Have no records on Benjamin Martin nor Thomas Coleman. I have a few Colemans in my files but all are from Virginia. No record of Illinois background. I will defer your last request to Martin. He has beaucoup info on Benjamin Thurmond and his children. 99% of the info I have on Benjamin Thurmond came from him. He is the expert on the "Mississippi Gang". Your cousin, Jim At 19:02 11/07/97 -0800, Bob Sled wrote: >Dear Group, > >I am trying to find some connections as noted in the subject line. 3. Dear Group, I am trying to find some connections as noted in the subject line. First and foremost I would like to know if anyone has information of the following family: Mary Wood Sandidge (30 Sep 1829 - ) & Isaac Porterfield Yates (1818 - ) married 10/4/1835, Adair Co, KY. I would like to find info on children and any subsequent marriages. Secondly, I have the following family: Benjamin Martin (b. 9/1838KY) parents born in KY, married to a Martha ? (b. 2/1854KY) parents born in KY. Married about 1878 in KY. They have the following children: Albert, Marshall, Nannie, Ellis. This is from 1900 Sangamon Co, IL census. It shows that they had 8 children but only 4 are living in 1900. I am wondering if there is any chance that this might be a descendant of a Sandidge/Martin marriage. Thirdly, I have the following family: Thomas Coleman (b. 7/1844IL) mother born KY, father unknown, married to Lucy E. ? (b. 3/1850MO) parents from VA. Married about 1869 in IL. The following children were living with them: Lloyd T., and John F.. This is from 1900 Sangamon Co, IL census. They had five children but only two are living in 1900. .Is there any chance that this could be a Sandidge relation. Given the Coleman name? And, lastly, I would like to ask if anyone has more info on the following: Benjamin Thurmond Sandridg b: 1795 in Albemarle Co, VA d: 1850 Franklin County, TN m: 1818 +Mary Elizabeth Martin b: 1799 in Wilkes Co, NC Robert E. Sandidge (son) Does anyone have any info on a marriage of Robert Sandidge? And, is it possible that he is the Robert Sandidge that went to Illinois? The interesting fact about the above questions is that the Martin family was living close to the Coleman family. And several Sandidge families were located within a short distance away. All of this in Island Grove Twp of Sangamon Co, IL. (To make it even better, a Yates family married into the Sandidge family and resided nearby.) Thanks for any help you give to me. Richard Sergeant

    3. Hi, Cousins, Two weeks ago my husband and I went to Amherst Co, VA and had fun exploring the back country roads for my ancestors. My cousin from Lynchburg was doing the driving. We heard about several homestead cemeteries but just went to a few as we wanted to check with the owners first before going on their property. We also went to several of the church cemeteries. This was my first real hunt and I found that I have to learn better skills and be prepared to take information from the "field". I did take photos of the tombstones and my husband took some video. Also went to the Amherst Historical Society which is going to publish a book on the tombstones from cemeteries that they find. A man told us of a Higginbotham cemetery in Mount Pleasant which is out Rt 60 W from Amherst and turn right on Sandidges Rd (Rr 610) then left on Rr 617 and go past Rr 631 to a fenced cemetery on right. ( I don't know where all these Higginbothams fit into the Sandidge line so if you can help me with this, please respond through the mail lists. Thanks, Rita) Absalom Higginbotham, Sr May 26, 1781 - July 7, 1866 with Psalm 37:37 inscribed on tombstone, Husband of Mary C. 1. Sandridge, Hertfordshire, England
    2. Jim Sandidge
    3. I was snooping around the web last night and came across this parish and village by the same name in England. They had a return email address so I asked them if anyone knew of the origin of the name. Has anyone out there heard of this place? I am planning a trip to England within the next year and, surely I will visit Sandridge. Its too close to be a coincidence. Is our family originally from that part of England? I am not sure. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Seems like all the Sandidge Genealogy has ceased. I haven't gotten a message for several days (weeks?) now. What's up? Jim

    2. Jean, No, I don't know anything about Avoy, LA. I was aware, though, that JMS had two wives before his marriage to Nancy Hutchison. A pix of this couple and their four children is in my book. It clearly shows JMS's wooden leg--a result of his injury at the Battle of Vicksburg. I see on page 106 of my book that, " There is a fragmentary court record in the Attala County Chancery Clerk's office that refers to a suit filed by a JMS against Rosanna Sandige on 12-29-1883. Chancery Court is the venue for divorce actions so it is possible that this case resulted in Jim obtaining a divorce from his first wife." (I now understand that this was actually his second marriage.) His marriage to Nancy must have occurred no earlier than 1884. The 1900 census states they were then married 18 years, but, of course such records are notoriously inaccurate. Later, on this same page, I write, "Jim had at least one child from his first marriage. School records for Attala County in 1885 show that he had an 18 year old son named Charles who had attended school that year. There is a family tradition that Charles was killed by a bear in the Delta, He was a trapper and was killed shortly after he had visited his father in Attala County. He was buried in the Delta, probably at Marigold. Another equallly strong tradition holds that Charles died about age 20 of pneumonia and was probably buried in an unmarked grave at McLean Cemetery." McLean is in Newport in SW Attala County, and is the final resting place of both Jim and Nancy Sandridge. Thanks for the nice comments about my book.
