    2. The Ploggers
    3. Rita and Others, Earlier today I sent (my first time) the following message to the Sandidge Rootsweb and wouldn't you know the first date I entered was incorrect! Since this is a very crucial date I thought best to re-send my message and correct the birth date of William Anderson Sandidge. The message in its entirety follows with the corrected date. Sorry!! David Sandidge (my cousin), and I are just beginning to research our line of the Sandidges. We have very little information to date, but have purchased the Ultimate Family Tree and are trying to find time to learn how to use it! We both live in Buena Vista, VA. In case you are wondering where we are, it's a small city located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. What we have so far is listed below and we are wondering if anyone can tie in with this information. We enjoy reading the information from Sandidge roots web and hope somehow we can start to see a tree form for us one day! 1. Information about Cookbook fundraiser for our Genealogy Server - Rootsweb
    2. Hello, Cousins, I wanted to let you know some of the things that I receive as listowner of SANDIDGE mail list from Rootsweb. First, Brian and Karen maintain the Rootsweb server and update equipment with monetary donations and their own money. In order to help with finances several people have been doing a cookbook fundraiser. I am on Shirley's Rootsweb Country-Kitchen list and she sent us the following: "The cookbook we're advertising is one compiled by members of the Homespun and Country-Kitchen lists. It's being sold to raise money for Rootsweb. Karen and Brian (who run Rootsweb) have been putting up to $60,000 a year of their own money into hardware to keep everything running. Belonging to a list requires no monetary donation. There are over 3,600 mailing lists on Rootsweb at present. Running a list does require a modest contribution of $24 per year, which entitles the list owner to have 3 lists. To be a donor (which I am), it is $100 per year. Due to the financial strain on Karen and Brian to keep all of us happy and the lists running, Sandi (a list member) suggested we - as a group - do a fund raiser to help them out. We did one cookbook (orders of which will soon be shipped) and it raised about $4,000 profit. It was so popular, and we had so many requests, that we are doing a second volume. We hope to raise at least $4,000 with this one as well." Over 500 recipes along with family traditions are in the books. If you are interested in ordering, go to the following http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/7186/order.html >>Books are $10 each, including tax and postage (US$13 for orders to Canada and Australia; pricing for other countries will be determined if orders are received). Payment must be by check or money order and received no later than July 10, 1998 (postdated checks cannot be accepted). We cannot process credit card orders. Payment not received by July 10 will result in an order being cancelled as the publisher requires their money when the order is placed (and the bank will hold out-of-state checks up to two weeks to clear). Checks drawn on US accounts or international money orders must be used. Remittance should be mailed to: "Homespun Cookbook" c/o 2200 Green Acres Dr. Rogers, AR 72758 We anticipate delivery of the cookbook about the end of November. They'll make wonderful Christmas gifts! We sincerely hope you will support this endeavor. Remember, ALL proceeds go to Rootsweb!!>> >From time to time, I will send information about what is happening with our genealogy server. I haven't sent very much as we don't seem to have the problems that alot of other surname lists have - thank goodness and knock on wood!! You all are the very best of "cousins" and I am enjoying researching our family tree with you. Our computer has acted up some lately so if by chance you can't get me one of these days, we may be out buying another computer as ours may die. Rita :-)

    2. Rowe, William
    3. Rita, I can give you the links for William Lee Sandidge, my great grandfather. I'll send the tree when I return to my home PC. In the meantime, from whatever memory I have left on a Friday morning, William's father was V. F. or Valentine F. Sandidge, son of Dudley Sandidge and Melinda/Belinda Smith. William was married to Lula Jane Cox (not Lula Jane Hill). Lula's parents were, I believe, Samuel Preston Cox and Martha McCall; grandparents were likely Thomas Cox and Jane Hill (where the Lula Jane Hill in your email apparently comes from). William Lee Sandidge was born on Christmas Eve, 1863, his mother dying about a week later. He grew up on High Peak Farm in Amherst County, with the Lees, the parents of his mother Mary Elizabeth Lee. William moved to Lynchburg in the 1890's and became the Chief of the Fire Department there. I have much info on the Sandidge line noted above, but precious little on the families of the women they married. I am very interesed in finding info about the Cox line (Samuel Preston Cox (born about 1837) and Martha McCall, his wife, and Thomas Cox and Jane Hill, his wife). Any, repeat, any info about them greatly appreciated. ---------- From: RASANDIDGE@aol.com To: SANDIDGE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: More SANDIDGE info from LDS Date: Wednesday, June 17, 1998 11:10PM Please, if you have any corrections or know how to connect these people to our family tree, send your replies to the SANDIDGE list. 1. Year2000+tombstones
    2. judith murphy
    3. I had previously forwarded to ya'll the item about the year 2000 problem and the tombstones (which came from Lori through Indytalk) and since then I am receiving some really interesting comments and some ideas. I would like to share some of these with ya'll. Eric Craig mentioned this: "Unfortunately it is also found in the cemeteries as well where one spouse has passed on and the other is still living. I have seen many tombstones that have the 19 prefix for one spouse that is still living." (hmmmm-- I hadn't thought of that -- so how are they going to fix THOSE?) Nora wrote about an EXCELLENT idea she had (that these tombstone makers/salesmen could use). She writes: "The tombstone makers could have sort of a half price sale at the end of the century. I recently found the grave of my fathers older brother who died in 1914 at the age of 4 months. I am providing a headstone which will cost $300. Now if they cut the price in half I could also mark the grave of my great aunts first husband who is also in the same plot. They would get rid of the extra headstones and not have to worry about storing or fixing them. Now if I could just convince the monument co's....... Nora" (I liked this idea -- think of the possibilities -- we might be able to mark graves which are unmarked now and we couldn't afford to do so before; we could replace crumbing stones or stones which have become unreadable with the cheaper ones (if someone wants to foot the price even at this half-price sale). And the list goes on....) I wanted to share these things as maybe we have some monument makers, mortitians, cemetery caretakers, investors in cemeteries and monument companies, etc. out there on our lists -- maybe if we put a "bug in their ear" something can be done to help them and could help us too about this year 2000 problem-to-come. 3. Several days ago I sent message starting out like this -- > I sent a letter to the Spencer County courthouse asking for some marriage > records sevral months ago. They apparently forwarded it to an independant > researcher. Because of the statement that followed mentioning about genealogical research, half of the answers thought that they were asking for genealogical research -- this was NOT the case and NOT what the problem seems to be. Let me rephrase the way I ask my question. I had received 2 messages (since then over a dozen) mentioning that some of the courthouses are not even giving copies or xeroxes of a specific birth, death, marriage, etc. when the information (exactly) is given to them -- for instance if I asked for a xerox of marriage for Anna Smith and Virgil C. Sandage, Apr 9, 1942 in Gibson Co, IN and that the county is then giving this over to an independent person or contractor (who charges between $10 and $40 hr with minimum of $10 plus xerox fees, postage and handling). (so far I have had over 40 saying YES this is occurring and the $$ figures I quoted came from them just for a simple xerox copy -- even if you say it was in Marriage books at Health Dept, vol 3 pg 310). THAT is what I am trying to figure out -- is this becoming a common thing among the courthouses? This is NOT genealogical research per se but is xeroxing public domain vital records. I always understood that THIS is what these people are there for and for which the tax dollars are being paid. I have been doing genealogical research for 37 years and the MOST I ever had to pay for a xerox of this kind was $2 (to cover the one xerox, their time, and postage, envelope, etc. Another concern is the number of courthouses or departments in courthouses that seem to NOT EVEN ALLOW looking at the records (I could understand if they used the US' rules of anything after 1920 to today, but before that time and dates in 1700's and 1800's I can't understand). Several mentioned that some records you can look at, but "down the hall" the other type of records you are denied access completely. Even mentioning the freedom of information act and other legal rules (even ones from their particular states) appears not to budge these clerks at all. I am just wondering and concerned about this problem (especially in the Indiana counties where I support 3 county USGenWeb Project webpages) as well as wondering if these clerks are REALLY giving this to the county or are they just pocketing the money for themselves (or a kick-back for themselves by using these independents and contractors), Judy M.

    3. Rita, Most of my info comes from data collected by my mother years ago. I will make it a point to visit the SANDIDGE Cemetery the next time I return to KY. For most of the data you sent on the family of Pleasant SANDIDGE, my dates agree with yours, and not with the ( )/LDS data. However, I do show July 3, 1849 as his death date. I think this is from a tombstone, and an "8" may have looked like a "9". When I see two marriage dates differ by a few days (as in June 22 & 24 below) I often find that the first date is the date of the marriage bond or license. I also show June 24 as their marriage date, which I believe comes from Dr. York's pamplet on the family. John Henry Clay SANDIDGE died 2 Sep 1915, in Cumberland Co., KY, according to Ky Vital Stats. Also, Tom Pike SANDIDGE's birth date is off in the listing. He lived only a few days. I would like to know when Dr. Pleasant Edward SANDIDGE died. HIs wife Louisa BURKS died aft. 1810, in St. Clair, MO. Bill Vincent (WmRVincent@aol.com) In a message dated 12:12:11 AM, you wrote (in part): <<I went to LDS library and compared their info to what I had on the following. The LDS data is in ( ).
