    2. Which Nathan Sandidge is your man? I have several, but do not have a wife Mary. My husband's line is Nathan Sandidge/Sandridge who died in Franklin County, TN in 1844. What was Mary's maiden name? Imogean

    3. Den, I forgot to mention that Mary (wife of Nathan Sandage) is believed to be daughter of a Hugenenot from PA -- did I ever tell you this? He moved from PA (Lancaster Co I think was told me) with his family to VA and then on to Union Co, SC. Of course someone else believes her father to be another man. If we are of Huegenot herritage it is possible how they met, etc. Can't recall if I ever mentioned above but know I mentioned that I have been searching ALL states/countries and ALL spellings and sic spellings just trying to find our roots. Never have found the marriage of Nathan and Mary yet either. Again since her parents stopped in VA before SC it is possible this or PA is where they married. Thanks so much for the info on the 1st Earl of Sandwich -- someone else had said he had been a friend of Pepys or served under him, but never heard anymore of this until your article from encyclopedia. For those on the list -- Dean is a very distant cousin of mine who has bantered back and forth with me about our heritage; but this speculation and bantering often gives me more ideas to explore while trying to find PROOF on Mary's parentage and surname as well as PROOF of parentage of our Nathan Sandage/Sandridge/Savage/Sandidge and how he fits into the rest of the family. Although I have been told his parents name and that he was born either in Albemarle Co, VA or Spotsylvania Co I have NEVER been able to prove this. I have mentioned on this list previously who they say his parents are. 2. If have an old letter from a 1st cousin twice removed, who died about 30 years ago in her late 80's who told me that she had always been told that the Sandidges came from Northern Ireland and were called Black Irish, what ever that meant. I hope this does not throw you off any....just letting you in on an old story told through many generations of Sandidges----Maybe.................Best of luck, Jean

    3. All my life I was told that the Sandage/Sandridge and variations were Scots-Irish but everytime I seem to come across anything it is England. Recently I did find some things which I thought were interesting so thought I would mention it and maybe someone else can get a grasp on our lineage, etc. http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1998/19982558.htm Above shows that in 1998 the Wards of the parish (this is City of St Albans, England) of Sandridge would be abolished and made instead into 3 parish wards: Marshalswick East, Marshalswick West and Sandridge Village. http://proni.nics.gov.uk/geogindx/counties.htm Above is the Public Record office of Northern Ireland and when you go to the prominent persons index search (search is flaky and if you put Earl and Sandwich or Earl+Sandwich it pulls up every mention of Earl even if has Sandwich or not -- 893 of them) and search on Sandwich it mentions in the Gosford Papers that there was correspondence with the 4th earl of Sandwich. In the National Heritage memorial Fund one it shows that the National Maritime Museum received an award of 40,000pounds towards the purchase of papers of Edward Montague, 1st Earl of Sandwich which includes his journal 1652-71 and other papers including papers of several of Sandwich's contemporaries. Also in these searches shows that Martha Ray was murdered and she was Sandwich's mistress and after this murder he (4th earl) wrote to R. B. Walsingham. Mentioned in another area was comments about the Envoy to Russia in the Macartney Papers -- mentiones that in the spring of 1764 Macartney was offered this post under the Court of Catherine the Great and through the influence "with the Secretary of State for the Nothern Department (Lord Sandwich)" Also mentions that letters passed 1764-1772 between the Lords Sandwich and Holland in 1765, of correspondence of Lord Sandwich 1763-1766 with Lord Ilchester. What interested me was that my ancestors were in America (we think -- found them first 1790 census of Union Co, SC and said to be from the Spotsylvania and Albemarle Co, VA Sandridge/Sandidge but never proven) at this time, but the fact that I had always heard about Earl of Sandwich Edward Montague and figured we probably were descended from that family, yet never knew that any of them had been Lord and never found any connection with Ireland or Scotland before now. Sure wish someone would tell me exactly where the 1st Earl of Sandwich lived and ruled and how he even became this Earl -- have never found much about him in any research I had done. Did see several holdings around London (mainly northeast and northwest of that town) but no pinpoint locations. In searching I did also found a Standish Monteith, the 4th Viscount Gort Prendergast, Standish, Lord Sandys (lots of Sandys) 1st Earl of Sandwich Edward Montagu 4th Earl of Sandwich 1718-1792 John Montagu 5th Earl of Sandwich 1743-1814 was John Montagu http://proni.nics.gov.uk/geogindx/geoghelp.htm Above has some geographical index of terms in Northern Ireland http://proni.nics.gov.uk/geogindx Aboveyou can get the counties in Northern Ireland and description of same; Baronies;Poor Law Unions; Dioceses; Parishes; Townlands As stated at the beginning this is the first connection with Ireland I have ever found and STILL do not understand how Lord/Earl Sandwich is connected with Northern Ireland and did he live there or was this just an area he oversaw for the English government. Anyone who can help me more on this and any other of the USA, Canadian, English, Irish, or Scottish (for that matter ANY country) of Sandage, Sandrage, Sandidge, Sandridge, Standidge, Standridge, Sandage, etc. variations of course. I know everyone here in America seems to keep coming up with the same dead ends. Hope something here can give ya'll some help or at least maybe a bit of info that you did not have before. 3. Susan -- went all the way back to ones from several days ago (very far behind in my email what with working with my ill husband, getting him moved to handicap-accessible apartment, etc. -- was this info you found "in 5 minutes" from a new message you got through the Sandidge-L messages? I didn't have it if this is the case -- OR Did you find this in the archives of messages of the Sandidge-L list? I am assuming it was from the archives since I didn't have the message myself. Just curious. Off the subject -- I had been praying for some type of help so my husband could get around in his wheelchair (now tumor is growing on spine and nerves that handle the legs, etc) and our old house is NOT able to handle a wheelchair (the doorways too small, etc. Just about this time an ad appeared in a paper I never even look at and it just "jumped right out at me" saying they had 2 handicap-accessible apartments -- and this was just a couple blocks from my own house. My son will be "renting" my house so I can rent this one -- it is MARVELOUS although very small for the monthly rent -- one bedroom. The cabinets have these buttons you press and it goes down to where a person sitting in wheelchair can reach out can goods, dishes, etc. Then raise again. Same with the stove and kitchen sink. LOTS of room with bars, etc in the bathroom, etc. Never knew they had such wonderful things now for wheel-chair persons. It was a truly blessing and we have moved him there now (although my computer is still at house but so is washing machine, dryer, etc. so "catching up" on email until they can move the computer (he has to have his games to play) while doing a load of laundry. Just thought I would mention this since as we get older or are care-takers for the elderly it is nice to know these things exist -- whether you have to install them yourself in your own home or are looking for a place like this to rent for the last years of their lives, etc. Judy M. 3. Hello List, I need info on Mary M. Sandridge (b: ca 1810 in TN?), who married Jacob Langston (b: ca 1797 in SC) on 18 July 1865 in Franklin Co, TN. This was a late-life marriage, so the name Sandridge was probably that of her previous husband. What, then, was her maiden name and who were her parents? The only online 1st marriage "possible fit" I've found was in Elbert Co, GA: James W. Sandridge to Mary Pulliam on 23 February 1830. If any of you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it! 3. While we are talking about the LDS site -- try this address of theirs too -- the bottom has some blank census forms you can use too. Wonderful LDS Source guide page: http://32.96.111.13/sg/ Here are some more problems I have found with the LDS searching site. If anyone has an email address for the LDS persons who are making this site I would like to send these comments to them (since their feedback is not working): 4) The link to do a more refined search is NOT working 5) The keyword search DOES accept surname only (again case sensitive -- use like this: Sandage 6) If you get an error message about nothing found, the box on this error message page to resubmit another keyword search does NOT work, you must return to previous page and use the other box -- tried this with several names that I knew had hits and never could get it to work. 6) If you get answers to a keyword search and it shows that you have some sourceguides as "hits", when you click on the TITLE link -- this does NOT work -- always gives you the HTTP Error 404 -- contact your administrator as page does not exist, etc. When I glanced at the address it appears that it is not putting in WHICH source guide it is to go to, only the page number of same. 3. Here are some problems I have found with that LDS site 1) you MUST put both a first and last name (their error message is same size as the instructions and puts it immediately under the instructions about this - not readily noticeable) 2) This is a Case-Sensitive database which means if you use all caps for the surname it is NOT working and gives a message you need to put first and last name even though you DID have this -- so you must type in names like this: Mary Brose John Raabe NOT BROSE OR RAABE!!! 3) The link to give them feedback is NOT working 4) The link to do a more refined search is NOT working Judy M.

    3. I have seen lots of times William as the son but have not found anything showing Thomas as the son -- Thomas is the one that is said to be my ancestor. Do you know of any documents that showed Thomas as their son? Also do you have any info on Thomas and his wife and the names and dates of birth of their children? Said that my ancestor Nathan is supposed to be their son but again can't find any documentation to this effect. So far all I had on Thomas was b 1691 (no place) no date of death or place or burial place. Nothing on Frances -- no dates or places of birth, death, buriel, etc. Thanks, Judy M. >John and Mary Vaughan Sandidge are my gggggg Grandparents and I right now only >show Mary Vaughan as his wife with two sons William and Thomas Sandidge, they >are on my dad side of the family and on my mother's side I have a Robert >Benjamin >Vaughan born in 1820 in Va and died in Columbia Co Arkansas. > >Louella McDonald Bernhardt >E-Mail hermlou@worldnet.att.net > >Judy M. wrote: > >> I don't know about a Margaret, but there is a Mary Vaughn b ca 1760, d ca >> 1707 VA and she married John Sandidge, b ca 1666 England d 1708 New Kent, VA >> (after Mary he married Kathleen Pendleton) >> >> Above is all I know (don't know her parents names -- possibly Mary and >> Margaret were sisters? or same person?) >> >> The only thing else that I know is that John and Mary were supposed to be >> father of Thomas Sandidge, b 1691 (no place or dates/place for death) who >> married Feb 20, 1911/1912 Albemarle Co, Va to Frances Chappell/Choppell (I >> have no dates at all for her and need her parents names too). >> >> I have been hunting for a long time for the names of all their children. 3. I don't know about a Margaret, but there is a Mary Vaughn b ca 1760, d ca 1707 VA and she married John Sandidge, b ca 1666 England d 1708 New Kent, VA (after Mary he married Kathleen Pendleton) Above is all I know (don't know her parents names -- possibly Mary and Margaret were sisters? or same person?) The only thing else that I know is that John and Mary were supposed to be father of Thomas Sandidge, b 1691 (no place or dates/place for death) who married Feb 20, 1911/1912 Albemarle Co, Va to Frances Chappell/Choppell (I have no dates at all for her and need her parents names too). I have been hunting for a long time for the names of all their children. So far I have only found one son's name and was told that they were supposed to be the parents of my ancestor, Nathan Sandage/Sandidge/Sandridge/Savage, b ca 1754 (some say SC but lady who told me that he was son of above mentioned also said that he was born Albemarle Co, VA. Nathan d Union Co, SC bef 1812 (someone else said 1819). Nathan's will was probated in Union Co, Sc. We have never found Nathan and Mary's marriage either (some say Mary was a Canady/Kenedy). I would like to know who this Margaret is also and her husband was, as well as if she is related to my Mary (mentioned above). Still in need of info on Thomas and Mary's children as well as names of Thomas' children through Pendleton lady.
