(first -- ifyou receive this twice my apologies as you may be in more than one addressbook section of mine) Now that the year 2000 is getting closer remember to change the date on your PC to a 4-digit (go to controlpanel of windows and change the International or Regional date to 4-digit instead of 2). Date/Time also to 4-digit date. To check whether you have it correct use explorer (file manager) and look at your file dates (if dates are not showing choose option to see full details). Should now show as 4-digit. You can do this today and then forget about it. Reason this works is that 2-digit writes to harddrive as 00 and computer doesn't recognize it as a year (but a null) while it does recognize 2000. Have a wonderful coming year!!! Judy M.

Broderbund has been doing this for some time. I have their "Marriage bundle" The implication is that it is extensive and complete. Neither is the case. many of their discs are only l0% full of data and some are much less. The purchaser feels that if they purchase a CD set that has 6 CD's in it that it is a lot of data. In fact the Marriage bundle of l0 CD's appears to be data that would go on l or 2 CD's. I can understand a census that does not fill a disc but fail to understand a Census that is grossly incomplete. I believe we should publicize the deficiencies in the discs they sell and encourage them to notify the purchaser if the disc is either incomplete data or less than a full disc. especially when the deficiency is more than l0%. Not including their WFT series, I would guess that most of their discs are less than 80% full of data and average of their lnon-wft discs would be less than 80%. Maybe that would be a good project for someone like Dick Eastman to attempt to interview them on that subject. Charles Severs

To all: Is anyone aware of any data missing from the original 1850 US Census, and if not, why would FTM sell an incomplete CD without some form of explanation? Anyone planning to buy, or having just bought the newly-released Family Tree Maker Family Archive CD 453, which is the 1850 Census Microfilm Records for Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, should consider the following information. According to their online literature, this Family Archive, a 6-CD set, indexes approximately 337,000 heads of household listed in the 1850 federal census from four southern states. It includes 123,322 individuals from Alabama, 40,238 individuals from Arkansas, 96,813 individuals from Louisiana, and 76,709 individuals from Mississippi. What FTM DOES NOT tell you in their literature is that CD 453 IS NOT COMPLETE. CD 453 does not contain the full 1850 census for the states noted above. Suspecting that the numbers quoted above are indeed low, I called Family Tree Maker twice in the last four days and was told by one person that the CD is 80% complete, and told by another person that some counties were not included. Neither of these customer representatives could tell me what counties were missing, nor from what state. Any thoughts? Jim

I always advise everyone going to purchase a cd of any kind from any place to find someone who has this FIRST and see what exactly is in it, their opinion of it, what is there, what is missing, etc........most of FTM cds are only partials and many of the other cds are like this as well. For example: it will say on a state (or group of states) marriages that they are from this xxxx date to that xxxx date for these states and counties within -- what they may not say is that although one county has the marriages to most current xxxx date that the majority of the rest of them may only be to 1830 or 1850 at the latest. Remember also that this fire was ONLY for the Army and Air Force records, not the Navy and Marine ones as they are kept at a different location. Also, if a person was entered and being treated in the VA hospitals then many of these records had been removed prior to the fire and were later found at the VA -- so just have them check again (as stated in original message). Bell as guardian of Wesley Sandidge, infant of Elizabeth Sandidge deceased, who was a daughter of Isham Bell, deceased and both of whom died before Francis Bell, who died in September 1857, having made his will. Said Isham was a son of said Frances who bequeathed 1/8 of his estate to the children and grandchildren of said Isham Bell deceased who are: Vincent S. Bell, Martha wife of James Seaton, Adaline Bell, Cassendra Bell. - Children of Isham Bell, of age, and residing in Madison County, AL. Several questions -- Do you know when Elizabeth Bell Sandidge died? When did he marry Elizabeth Sisk. Why was William not appointed the guardian of his own son Wesley? Which wife, of William, was the mother of William and Charity Sandidge? Who was the Margaret Sandage age 33, domestic, and children Jane age 7 and Mary age 5 that were listed in the household of Jno. Cisk (sic) Sisk in the 1860 census of Madison County, AL? They were listed in the P. O. of New Market in household 187/185, 9 June 1860. Wm Sandage age38, (he did not die in 1858), Elizabeth age 38, domestic, Jno 8, Wm 7, and Charity 3 were in the same PO, household 231/229, 11 Jun 1860. Are the two ladies, Margaret and Elizabeth, the same person just visiting with John Sisk? Are Jane and Mary Sandidge also children of William? Both Margaret and Elizabeth were born in TN. Elizabeth Sandridge age 25 is listed in the household of William Sandridge in the 1850 Madison County, AL Census. Elizabeth age 38, a Domestic, is listed in the household of William Sandage in the 1860 Madison County, AL Census. I do not have a copy of the 1870 census of Madison County, AL to see if these children are all listed in one family. Wesley M. age 15, laborer, born in Alabama is living in the household of Ewing B. Bell in the 1860 Madison County, AL Census. I would like your comments/ideas on this family. This is not the family that my husband is a descendant of. He descends from Nathan, through Nimrod, and then Frances MARION Sandridge of Franklin County, TN and Marshall County, AL.

To Elsie, John Marion SANDRIDGE did have children; they are William Porter, Minnie, Arthur Raymond, Walter Marion, Edgar S., Homer Boyd, and Charles Bentley. I do not know who Martha Artena Thomas SANDIDGE/SANDRIDGE was. I am wondering if John Marion had any brothers or sisters. He is on the 1850 census with his parents William and Elizabeth SANDRIDGE and his half brother Wesley in Madison Co Alabama. His father dies in 1858. My great grandparents had four children: Clarence b. 3 Aug 1883; Mary b. 4 Dec. 1891, d. Jan 1977; Effie (grandmother) b. 25 March 1896, d. 10 April 1987; and Garrison. I know about Effie and her family, Clarence died in the 1940s unmarried and no children, Mary married a man named Le Neve and Garrison was last known to be in Oklahoma in 1931.
