My great, great grandfather Augustine SILVEIRA was born on the island of Faial in the Azores, off Portugal. He was a Portuguese sailor on a whaling ship that called in at Upolu, Western Samoa during the 1840's. He jumped ship and in March 1852 married a Samoan girl, Malaisala (Mele) Maria, the daughter of a High chief Fiami, of Lotofaga (or Falevalasi?), and niece of Mata'afa, High Chief of Samoa. She died 17 Dec 1869 and was buried at Mulivai, W. Samoa. Augustine SILVEIRA and Malaisala Maria had 7 children: 6 of whom are listed below: 1. Manuel de Silva born 18.3.1860 died 6.2.1938 in Apia aged 90 married Caroline SCANLON 2. Catherine Anna de Silva born 25.6.1853 died 26.11.1918 aged 65 (my great grandmother) married Montgomery BETHAM (Their daughter Margaretta Betham who married Ernst Friedrich REYE was my grandmother) 3. Joseph de Silva born 28.6.1855 died March 1856 aged 11 mths 4. Joseph de Silva born 21.4.1857 5. Mary de Silva born 3.5.1862 married a Mr KOPSCH in Leipzig, Germany 6. Luisa de Silva born 28.11.1865 married a Mr KRONFELD in N.Z. My questions are: 1. I would like to find Augustine SILVEIRA'S birthdate, parents and village of birth on the Island Faial, Azores. Would these facts be found on his marriage certificate? How would I go about finding this out? 2.
