Thanks for the suggestion about my search for John Hunt. I'll certainly try that. Dorothy
Try POLYCAFE.COM there are a lot of people there that might be able to help everyone in there search. My husband found his uncle that moved to the US like 40+ years ago. And you can post messages and see if anyone knows your family.. GOOD LUCK TO ALL
Hi Dorothy, Have you checked the for your John Hunt on the Immigrants Ship Transcribers Guild: http://istg.rootsweb.com I believe they had a ships passenger list for Apia from about 1893? Check it out they may have listed more since I have visited the site. Good Hunting! Thanks, but I've done all that with no results. John Hunt probably went to New Zealand or Australia before settling in Apia.
Hi to all you Samoan family hunters. I've been on the list for several months, but have not put in any queries until now. My father was from Samoa (Danielson). His mother was Mary Hunt Danielson. I am still searching for information on her father, John Hunt. He was born in Stepney, London, England in 1822 and is buried at Pesega, Upolu, W. Samoa. I cannot find the parents of John Hunt. Anyone have any suggestions. Records for Stepney have not produced any results. Any help is appreciated!!! Dorothy Danielson Brown
Try parish records in Stepney. Mareko DBrown529@aol.com wrote: > Hi to all you Samoan family hunters. > I've been on the list for several months, but have not put in any queries > until now. Dear Karen and other list members, No apology is necessary. The person who sent the angry messages to the list has been removed, as she wished, and will not be returning. She sent me a personal note of apology. Apparently she did not understand the nature of a mailing list, in that a message posted goes to all of us subscribed, and she did not understand that the purpose of a mailing list. This list is for discussion of things pertaining to Samoan research in particular and genealogy research in general. I want each of you to know that the purpose of this list is a tool where we can join together and help each other find our ancestors. Ask questions, post ideas and information that you might find that will help in Samoan research, discuss customs and history. Also post your queries about who you are researching. The more active the list is with postings, the more help it will be -- I'm looking forward to learning more. I didn't realize I sent you anything. Sorry. Karen
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get genealogy infos on Swains Island. Someone mentioned that the Jennings should have records of those who were born and lived there but couldn't get any answer. With all due respect, Savea
Hello Group, I was going through some old notes and came up with this index of Wills 1906-1961, American Samoa, High Court, LDS microfilm # 1084788. Dear List-members, Samoa-L currently has 43 subscribers. When you post a message to the list, it goes to all 43 of us. Replies are set to default back to the list. Watch your reply address, if you do not want your reply to go back to the list. To SUBSCRIBE or to UNSUBSCRIBE add the word "request" to the rootsweb mailing list address. This works the same for all Rootsweb mailing list: example: SAMOA-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM If you are on the digest version, you substitute "D" for the "L" in the address. Example: SAMOA-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Keep in mind that the mechanics of the list are automated by computers at Rootsweb.com. As with all machines, though, sometimes things don't work right. If you have trouble subscribing, or unsubscribing, you can send a message to SAMOA-L-ADMIN@ROOTSWEB.COM. Or if sending a message to the list, put something in the subject line, "Karen, please help" or "Listowner, please help" to let others know they can delete the message. I will attend to it as soon as I see it. I have one disadvantage as that I do not have any Samoan ancestry and so am not as familiar with Samoan records as many of you are. I started the web page and mailing list as a service to get it started until someone more capable desires to take over the project, hence I remain more quietly in the background then do many list administrators. I do assure you that I am here and reading every post. Karen Bush Samoa-L admin karenbush@thedam.com

Hi: These people often bury their dead in the backyard. The concept of death certificates sounds a little far-fetched to me. I would also really question the accuracy of the dates from my own past experience. Karen
