I am going to Salem in October, I plan to take lots of digital photos, too. My husband is descended from Mary Easty. I would love tips from those that have visited Salem as I have never been there before. I think that you all might find this funny, I know my family has roared with laughter at my expense. I am 'into' the whole New Age 'thing' always have been. Halloween is big in our house. Only in the fun sense for kids no scary stuff, lots of fog. Costume party for kids. I have an old corn broom that my son and I decorated and now we use it as a Halloween dec. by our door. He firmly believes that I can fly on it. Hey, he's only four once, right? He's very interested in family history and asks LOTS of questions about who grandma's mother is and so on. So I told him that we're going to Salem to visit where his 9th times gr-grandma died. I gave a very brief simple explanation of why and how she died. He's four going on twelve and has had all grandparents and and all but one greats die in the last four years. No big mystical scary stuff in death for this kid. So, keeping that in mind, I explain that the folks that died were falsely accused of being witches. That they were actually Christians and that they people that did it found out they were wrong and........ He interrupts me, puts his little hand on my shoulder and says, "When we get to Massachew-sits are they going to kill you, mommy?" The family loved it. Visions of me in a pointy hat, green wart on my nose with my red ruby slippers, I am sure. I assured him that no one gets killed in Salem anymore. And that I would be quite well when we left there. Then he asked if daddy would buy me a new broom while we were there. Cute. I visited Salem,Plymouth,Chelmsford and Lexington,MA. My time was limited so wasn't able to do all that I wanted to do but I plan on making many more trips to Massachusetts as I've got 30 lines to the 1600's there. I definately will be going back to Salem and the other towns I visited. > > Anyway I thought some group members might like to have the photos I took of the stone memorial benches of Margaret Scott and Rebecca Nurse. I was planning to take photos of all the memorial benches for all those that parished so tragically in the witch trials. Unfortunately my digiital camera ran out of jiuce so couldn't get them all. I'll get the rest next trip. I also have some photos of Salem waterfront, old homes such as the house of 7 Gables and old Salem if anyone is interested. Next trip I will also visit Gallows Hill but didn't have enough time this trip. If anyone would like these photos e mail me privately at neroots@adelphia.net and I'd be glad to send them to you. > > And while I'm talking about it I wonder if anyone has the genealogy for Margaret Scott. I'm almost certain that she is one of my direct anscestors but I need some additional information to confirm it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. > > Sincerely, > Noreen Maloney LaTour > Burlington,Vermont >
