Joanne, I'm curious about the Quaker connection. My line that goes back to Salem 1692 were Quakers until 1820 or so. Some of them (the Hoags) converted right around the time of the witch persecutons or shortly thereafter. They were not the so-called birthright Quakers like the folks who emigrated with William Penn tho I have those in another line who met up with my Salem line in Whittier CA around 1900. I had assumed that George and Susannah Martin were not Quakers because of a dispute that George got into with church authorities about the seat Susannah was assigned in church. Seating in church reflected degree of status among the Puritans. I don't think that was true of the Quakers but I could be wrong. I'd like to investigate further, so I would appreciate it if you or anyone else could post a list of any other articles and books that might address the Quaker issue especially vis a vis Susannah and George Martin.
