    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] Spelling
    2. On the name, "Nourse," it does not appear in the actual legal documents pertaining to the trials, although reference to it may have been made elsewhere. The documents use mainly "Nurse," but also "Nurce." So for those interested in how the spelling evolved the issue is mainly how it turned from "Nurse" to "Nourse" rather than from "Nourse" to "Nurse." Everybody interested in this should keep in mind that spelling in general in the seventeenth century was inconsistent, as was grammar, and people simply didn't make an issue of it when writing in English. Our modern regularizations of grammar and spelling in English basically started in the eighteenth century. Hope this is helpful. Bernie Rosenthal
