    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] David Greene Bishop article "correction"

    3. That missing volume of The American Genealogist finally got recovered - it had been misshelved someplace, along with the index to the TAG that everyone firmly thought our library didn't even have! So I now have the "correction" to David Greene's article about the identity of Bridget Bishop's husband. This "correction" is an unusually weighty detail to leave for a "correction". The correction pleads that it isn't Greene's fault, the typist was suffering from "ill health"! Hmm... I am frankly suspicious of it. The correction states that Greene's most important point is that Edward Bishop Sr and his wife Hannah Bishop signed a petition for Rebecca Nurse in 1692, therefore Hannah the first wife of Edward Bishop Sr was obviously still alive and married to Edward Bishop Sr and Edward the husband of Bridgette must have been someone else. Unarguable logic - if it is true. But very strangely, given how carefully Greene documents every point in his article, the correction does not give a source of this petition! Does anyone know of this petition or know the source where it would be? If one or more petitions was circulated relating to Rebecca Nurse, perhaps someone knows where copies of it are where one could check who signed them? I don't have this article handy, but my impression is it just said petition for Rebecca Nurse in 1692, didn't even give the date of this petition (which would more clearly identify it). Also, anyone know how to reach David Greene? It would be quite interesting to write him and ask him! Since Edward Bishop Sr and his first wife Hannah are my ancestors, I recall looking very carefully into what happened to Hannah and being someone puzzled, indeed, I thought that they had divorced since I found no record of her death, and since in that time that was indeed evidence of family instability I actually looked as carefully as I could into what did become of her such that Edward Sr ended up remarried. I do not recall at this time if I ever found any record of her death. Not every death, birth or marriage was recorded, just like the marriage of Bridgette Oliver to Edward Bishop was never recorded though plainly Bridgette Oliver did marry an Edward Bishop. I don't have access to a computer that can read my GEDCOM file where I'm most likely to have written down what I did find, though I can't remember if I updated it! It seems to me I did eventually find something, but I can't remember what. I could probably find the notes in theGEDCOM file though (they view as text on a browser). But does anyone have information on what did become of Hannah? Yours, Dora ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
