    3. I posted information on Christian Oliver's marriage and family, and a genealogy of the Woodbury and Trask families showing all marriages, etc., this morning - and I don't know if either got posted to the list, because I didn't get them, and I got the two postings I just made to the list. One was 4 K long and the other was 12 K long. I did save them as drafts this time (It was my third try at posting the first one), so I can repost them if they did not appear. The presentation on Christian Trask's suicide and Hale's testimony in one of the Trask web sites contains the following statement tacked on after John Hale's signature, presented in such a way that it appears to be part of the original document (sworn statement by JOhnHale on May 20, 1692), but I can't be sure. It says: "To several parts of this testimony new witnesses Major Gedney Mr Parris Joseph Herrick junr and his wife Thomas Raiment and his wife John Trask Margaret King Hannah wife of Colonel Baker Miles and others. As also about the said Goody Bishop Capt William Aaiment his son Wm Raiment about creatures strangely dying. James Kettle and the above said Jos. Herrick and Tho. Raiment about Sundry actions that have the appearance of witchcraft". The source is David Levin, "What Happened in Salem?" I don't believe I've seen this book. I have seen the Salem Witchcraft Papers, in the local university law library, which is at present apparently closed for asbestos abatement to judge from the plastic shrouds over all bookcases and furniture to be seen through the locked door. I am not aware of both William Raymond Sr and William Raymond Jr testifying to the strange deaths of animals. I do know that I thought it was William Raymond Jr when I read it in Salem Witchcraft Papers, I sure wasn't looking for a Batcheldor or a Kettle who I've lately read said it, that he was visiting Dr. Griggs one afternoon and saw his niece throw one of her fits. The genealogy I posted that I don't know if it got on the list clearly shows why Herrick's, Raymonds, and Bakers would have suddenly come up with all sorts of things in response to Hale's cand Christian Trask's husband's charge that she was driven mad and done in by witchcraft by Sarah, not to mention what inspired Elizabeth Balch's civic spiritedness on the matter. (I thought that she got her inlaw condemned to death because she couldn't bring herself to believe the woman was abused by her husband!) I would like to know if these people really said these things and if it is recorded anywehre else besides in Hale's statement or attached to it. Also what is the original source on Hale's statement, ie, should it be in the Salem Witchcraft Papers, too? If anyone has Levin's book (I don't think it is in the local or university libraries), could they please check and see if this paragraph is part of the original document or something Levin wrote. Also, it would be very interesting if the entire Bass River crew of families (except the Bishops, who are notably missing from the list) DID get involved against the Bishops to this degree. It bears on whether Bridget was the wife of Edward Bishop Sr who was closely related to the other families by marriage, though hardly definitively. The Bass River families were continually getting involved in long and bitter legal battles, sometimes criminal charges, with each other, and they seemed to change allignents like the phases of the moon. They allegedly didn't get on with the Puritans; what on earth was any of them doing in the house of one of the leaders of the Parris faction? I also want to know if they were really capable of getting quite this nasty; their interminable conflicts never lead to people dying before. In fact, they were noted for generally having better sense than the Puritans - about life in general.
