I checked out Kathy's statement in the Beverly records in the library yesterday; they show that John Trask did indeed marry Christian Woodberrie on Apr 9, 1679, in Woodbury. If there was some relation between Christian Trask and Bridget Bishop, they should show if one does enough charting of the genealogies of these two people, and also of John Trask. I didn't learn of any direct close relationship, but perhaps someone will pick up on something in what I did learn. I also did learn things about assorted relationships to Christian Trask that amazed me. First; Bridget Bishop's genealogy. She had two children in England, apparently, who there is no record of once they were born, they seemingly did not come to this country. She had Christian. Her husband, Thomas Oliver, had three children whose marriages could conceivably account for a claim of someone being an in-law of Bridget's. Here is what David Greene had on them, which is all Icould find. By his first wife, Mary, Thomas Oliver of Salem had: Thomas B England bef 1637 John b Engl bef 1637 poss had dau Ellen, and poss is grandfather of Ellinor Jones named in Oliver's estate's disbursement request and order. Mary m (1) Salem 1661 Job Hilliard, had Job Hilliard and Abigail Hooper named in the disbursement request and order in 1693 as grandchildren of Thomas Oliver. Apparently Job Hilliard Jr was the new administrator of the estate. Mary m (2) Salem William West. apparently had no children by 1693. Also mentioned in the disbursement request and order on Oliver's estate was Elinor Jones alias Olliver of Nevis (the Elinor JOnes above), and the fact that Edward Bishop of Salem was appointed guardian of his step-granddaughter Susannah Mason who was still a minor. (and I guess not yet married.) The records of the Traske family are confused and confusing, but here is what has been sorted out. There are two Trask genealogies on line at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/2225, and http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/8860. Also a small amount of information in the genealogy of the Peter line from John of the Woodbury family. A number of Traske emigrants. Capt Wm Traske to Cape Ann 1623, friend and companion to Gov Endicott. Osmand Traske settled Beverly at abt 1645. William and Osmond were apparently brothers from East Clike, Somersetshire. A brother, John, had a son, John, who may be the third emigrant, John. Or John may be John the son of William, or JOhn the son of Osmande. Henry Traske, b 1633? probably a brother by a different mother. John Traske, son of Capt Wm Trake m (1) Abigail Parkman, (2) Mary Clarke. He followed his father's trade as a miller and lived in Salem Village. John Trask, son of Osmond Trask of Beverly, m Christian Woodbury and lived at Beverly, MA. John Trask Sr the mystery man m Hannah Sclart? (I can't read my writing) and was a seafaring man, lived at Beverly, moved to Lexington MA. Osmond Trask m (1) Mary (unknown) on 1/11/1649, apparently in Beverly. Sarah b 1650 d young m Unknown Holland Edward b 6/6/1652 John b 1653 m Christian Woodbury Mary b 1657 m Moses BROWN Wm Trask m (2) E Gally, 2nd wife of Osmund, in 1663 she m John. (?) This came from oneof those web sites. Samuel Trask m 1664 Susannah WOODBURY b 1673 d 1745. His son, Josiah Trask, m (1) Mary WOODBURY in 1719, b 1703 Beverly, dau Pter Woodbury II b 1666 and Mary Dodge. (She was first cousin to Christian Woodbury.) Abigail b 1669 m Robert BAKER in 1723, son of JOnathan BAKER and Mary Unknown. (desc of Cornelius BAKER, lived right around there.) Benjamin Trask m (1) Mrs. Mercy (SHATTUCK) Elliott 1705 Beverly m (2) Tryfene or Trypene HERRICK, m 1711, b 1676, dau of Joseph HERRICK and Mary Endicott. Jonathan Trask bp 1675 Edward Trask bp 1677 m Deborah Roundry. The Trasks and Woodberry's lived next to each other and near the Bishop's, Raymonds and Balches in Beverly on the Bass River. The HERRICK family ties these families together; Henry Herrick, 5th son of Sir Wm Herrick, m Edith Laskins. 8 children. i Henry Herrick m Lydia WOODBURY, five children. i Capt Joseph Herrick bp 1660 m Sarah DODGE i Mary m Andrew Elliott Henry m Joanna WOODBURY dau of Andrew WOODBURY Lydia bp 1691 m 1708 Josiah WOODBURY son of Deacon Peter WOODBURY The DODGE family and also the BATCHELDOR families very closely tie all of the Raymond, Balch, (not so much Bishop, whose daughter married Wm Raymond), Woodbury and Trask families together. Extensive intermarrying and inbreeding among these families. John WOODBURY and his br William were early settlers on Bass River, I think. I got most information from a book on John Woodbury and the descendants of his son Peter, and some from the Trask web site, and most of the information abaout the children of Humphrey from Ancestral File, the informaiton in which atleast in part checks against the Beverly and Salem records and the little that is in the book on the Woodbury's. I believe that the Woodbury book listed the children of Hannah and Cornelius Baker. This book remarkably, and quite suspiciously, mentions Humphrey and any of his children at all only slightly and in passing, never are his children listed, though he was the other son of the emigrant Woodbury. The author of this book describes John as staunch and taciturn. John Woodbury m (2) Salem or Beverly, Agnes, between 1629 when he was a founder of the Beverly church, and 1635 when she is listed and they had a child. Agnes' last name not known. He married her in his old age, and died when the children were quite young. Humphrey b abt 1607 by an earlier marriage (AF says to Joanna Humphrey), brought to Beverly by his father at about age 20 or something. Founding member and deacon for 17 years at Beverly church. He was much older than his half siblings. He married Elizabeth Unknown, in Salem or Beverly. They had: John bp 1641 m 1656 Elizabeth, m 1690 Alice Blish or Darbe. Thomas b 1639 m 1661 Hannah DODGE m (2) Elizabeth Curtis Isaac bp 1643 or 1645 m Mary Wilkes Humphrey b 1646 m 1671 Anne Winder Susannah b 1648 m John Tenney, Deacon, m (2) John Bray Peter b 1653 had Mary m Josiah TRASK Richard b 1655 m 1674 Sarah HASKELL * ELIZABETH B 1657 chr 1658 m JOHN WALKER * CHRISTIAN b 1661 m 1670 John TRASK Abigail bp 1635 or 1637 m John Hill 166_ Hannah bp 1636 m Cornelius BAKER (another early Bass River settler) Hannah bp1660 d 1662 Hannah 1662 Child 1662 Samuel and Cornelius, 1667 Jonathan 1669 Abigail 1672 Priscilla 1674 Bethiah 1677 John 1678 Jabez 1682 Peter bp 1640 a deacon at Beveerly church, adm'd estates of John BATCHELDOR and JOHN KETTEL (whose daughter married Wm Raymond jr and also tied to the BATCHELDOR's) took part in public affairs and government with John Dodge and William Raymond Sr. He is likely to hve been named for minister Hugh Peter who later became Chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, and was executed as a regicide. I guess this man was an early minister in the area or something? It took some personality to be likely to have named a son after such a man! m (1) Abigail BATCHELDOR, adau of John of Raylside and Beverly. She did not live very long. They had: Deacon Peter woodbury bp 1636, m Mary DODGE, daughter of Edward DOGE whose sister was his father's second wife, and Mary HASKELL, daughter of William HASKELL of Gloucester who had brother Roger HASKELL living at Beverly. Peter m (2) Sarah DODGE, dau of emoigrant Richard and Edith DODGE, in 1656 or 1657. She bp 1644. They had: *JERUSHA m 1698 George RAYMOND, full brother of William Raymond Jr my ancestor, and son of Capt Wm RAYMOND who married Hannah BISHOP the dau of Edw Bishop sr and stepdaughter to BRIDGET. A dau Hannah m Joshua DODGE. William Raymond and Hannah Bishop are my direct ancestors. So Wm Raymond's brother was married to Christian Woodbury's first cousin. Josiah m Lydia HERRICK, dau of Capt Jos HERRICK m Mary DODGE dau of Wm DODGE and Mary Conant widow of John BALCH a brother of Benjamin the father of Benjamin who m Elizabeth WOODBURY who testified against Sarah and Bridget Bishop, who drowned in a storm,; he was son of Lydia WOODBURY and Henry HERRICK. Benjamin's brother Freeborn is my direct ancestor. SARAH m Deacon John RAYMOND gson of John RAYMOND the brother of Capt William Raymond Sr. Abigail m ___ Lamsom. Anna m John HERRICK son of Joseph Herrick Martha m Ichabod BROWN and had Rev. John BROWN Priscilla Rebecca, both never married. Another Woodbury, John, settled at Beverly who very importantly appears to have been another son of John Wood bury by his first wife. John Woodbury Sr deeded land to Humphrey Woodbury Sr, Cornelius Baker (husband of his daughter), Peter Woodbury, and Elizabeth Dodge widow of John Woodbury deceased, with their only surviving son Ebenezer Woodbury. That makes no sense unless John was his son. John married Eliza who on his death married Capt John DODGE the son of William DODGE. They had: ****** ELIZABETH WOODBURY bp 1654, 8 mo or June, 15. married BENJAMIN BALCH JR, and testified against Sarah and Bridget in 1692! So she was a first cousin of Christian TRASK! Remember, Benjamin's brother Freeborn was my ancestor. John bp 1657 d 1662 Ebenezer Woodbury (identified by the land transfer) Abigail bp 1660. It appears that Christian Trask was tied by marriages to this entire group of families and indirectly to Bridget Bishop. If anyone comes up with a closer tie between the two, I would like to see it.
