The Midwife you mentioned in your post on this site is Margaret Jones executed 1648, her and another woman, Mary Johnson was executed as well that year. However, they were not the first.... "The first trial and execution for witchcraft was recorded almost simultaneously in two private journals, that of John Winthrop and Matthew Grant, the town clerk of Windsor, CT. Both entries were brief. 'One------of Windsor arraigned and excuted at Hartford for a witch,' Winthrop noted in late May of 1647.
