My ancestor was not from Salem, but from Gloucester, MA. About 10 years before the Salem Witch Trials, she and three other women from Gloucester were accused of being witches. The husbands of these women sued the accuser for slander. The husbands won the law suit. The man had to go before the congregations of churches in Gloucester, Salem, and Ipswich. He had to apologize to the women and state that his accusation was false. My ancestor was Grace (Pratt) Dutch, wife of Osman Dutch. I can name the surnames of the other ladies if anyone is interested. Grace is my eligible ancestor for Associated Daughters of Early American Witches.
