Although it is several centuries after our interest in Salem, I ran across a photo today at the Library of Congress that many members of the list may want to see. There was a devastating fire in 1914. To see a panoramic photo, go here: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/d?pan:20:./temp/~ammem_8NN4: AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOSE THE COLON OFF THE END OF THE URL!!! Then go to Photo 37 by using the "NEXT PAGE" link at the bottom of the page you're taken to. Click on Photo 37 to get to an info page with a small picture. Click on the small picture to see a larger version of the kind of physical devastation most of us will be spared in our lives. Knowing this is Salem, the photo affected me not so much as representation of physical devastation, but as a metaphor for the spiritual devastation of the town after the 1692 trials. -- Lisa
