    3. Cindy's report is something I expected to see presently -- that some clans at Salem Village many have had both accused and accusers among them, almost under the same roof, figuratively speaking anyway, during the witch trials. For example, the Andrews. (The Andrews were Villagers, weren't they? I'm not sure.) There really should be other clans in the same pickle. Boyer and Nissenbaum count 25 accused at Salem Village. They also count 105 "householders" total. If spread evenly, that would be one accused witch in every fourth home. But, in reality there would be some reductions. Several of the 25 were all Townes. But also, several of the 105 households were also all Townes in one way or another. Etc., etc. And in such a small population, the in-law network must have been tight indeed. There is something here that argues against the conspiracy theories and in favor of the panic theory, but I'll be doggone if I can put it together. Insufficient data, I suppose. But it seems to me that the more clans (including close in-laws) that had both accused and accusers answerable to a common patriarch, the more the whole event looks like a general panic. But, how many such clans were there? Figuring that out could take years.
