    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] Confessions by Torture of Accused
    2. Janet Yates
    3. I collect books and like to frequent used book stores and book fairs. I have just purchased a book published in 1966 published by BEACON PRESS. The Title of the book is: CRIME and PUNISHMENT in EARLY MASSACHUSETTS 1620 - 1692, a Documentary History. The author is Edwin Powers. I have thus far only skimmed through it but it is a book I don't think I would want to read at bedtime. It may be available through interlibrary loan or obtainable through an antiquitarian book dealer. I paid $35 for my copy which is in excellent condition. Janet Yates

She was married to Thomas Greenslade/sleet/slit in 1648, before being widowed in 1674, and then marrying Jacob Pudeator. I am descended through the Averill line you mention above! I have precious little actual documentation from a few sources that I can share with you. John Averill married Anne Greensleet, grand daughter of the above Anne ______ Greensleet! I first learned of the connection in the Averill book, which is fairly well referenced The history of Salem, page 64, gives an account of "Thomas Greensleet, who died in July of 1674, and his wife and children John, Thomas, Ruth, Samuel, and James, and that his widow married secondly Jacob Pudeator, who died in 1682" The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, page 289, has a pretty full account of the Thomas Greenslade family and Ann's second marriage to Jacob Pudeator. (Thomas first came to Falmouth, Maine in 1643, with the crew of the "Marjory"). It even mentions her son John Greenslade/Greensleet (my ancestor) being with her when she was hanged, 22 SEP 1692! No one has ever discovered Ann's maiden name, and I have not seen any quesses at it either! If you have trouble finding any of these references, write me and I will mail some photocopies to you! -- Bill Semeyn [email protected] “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi

    3. Does anyone know of a site where the trial transcripts of John Proctor can be located? Or does anyone have them that could send them to me? I am working on my report for school & thought this would be an excellent piece of evidence to show my american lit teacher that John was not accused by Abigail Williams as in the crucible. I have read the devil in Massachusetts, which showed his accusers, but wondered if there was something besides a book to quote from. Thanks in advance for any help. 3. A little while ago, I posted a message asking for help with the John Proctor/crucible question & got many wonderful responses & alot of help for a contradiction from my school teacher. I got alot of addresses for great websites as suggestions. My problem now is, that somehow I wiped out all the addresses & wondering if all the great people that first responded to my query if you could once again help me by giving me those addresses again. I wanted to print out some information to help me with my report! By the way, I'll let all of you know what my final grade is since you all helped me. With thanks & gratitude again! Kelly

    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] Francis BOWDEN, Grandson of Francis & Rebecca NURSE
    2. Dear Bonnie: Yes, I have Francis Bowden in my husband's family file. According to my records, your records are correct in placing him as the grandson of Francis and Rebecca Nurse and the son of their daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Michael Bowden. Lile your records, I have Francis Bowden's birth in 1678 and death in 1759 in Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts. However, I do not have a marriage or children for him. Your information for his wife and descendants is probably on target. Keep on searching! :-) Joyce Rarick

    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] Grandson of Rebecca Nurse- Francis BOWDEN
    2. Hi, There's a fairly good chance that I'm a descendant of Rebecca Nurse, but I need to tie down some loose ends to be sure. I'm wondering if anyone has information about the descendants of Rebecca's daughter Sarah and her husband Michael BOWDEN. They had a son Francis (born 1678 and died 1759). From Essex vital records, I've gotten that a Francis BOUDEN (variation of BOWDEN) married a Mary BOOBYER (BUBIER) 22 Sept 1707. Joseph, the son of Francis and Marey, was born in Marblehead 23 April 1725. Joseph is the ancestor that I'm sure of. Does anyone have any information that Francis BOUDEN who married Mary BOOBYER is the grandson of Rebecca Nurse? Thank you. Bonnie Kearley, Ottawa, Canada

    3. Tami and Stephanie- Thanks for your quick replies to my BARTON query! I am just beginning to work on my Barton line, and am on the Barton list, where I got some really good help from someone there. He is the one who has my gg-gfr in his database, and as I followed the line back, Samuel is a direct ancestor. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find a potential ancestor so prominently involved in such an important part of our history! Okay, now how about Elizabeth Booth? I have a Booth line that goes back through NH to England (my immigrant brother was Robert), and would like to see how I am related to her... Thanks everyone! -Tamara ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
