    1. Re: [SALEM-WITCH-L] how to reach David Greene
    2. Kathy Willett
    3. David Greene is the current editor of TAG - The American Genealogist. I am sure you can reach him at the TAG mailing address which is P.O. Box 398, Demorest, GA 30535-0398. He is highly respected and goes by very high standards so anything that he submits has been carefully done. I have seen, and in fact have in my possession somewhere, a copy of the list bearing the names of Edward BISHOP and Hannah BISHOP as I had already come across this bit of conflicting evidence. It might even be in one of the volumes of the Witchcraft Papers that have been discovered to be online but I haven't visited so don't know if those were images of the book or a transcription. The list I saw was an actual image of the signatures but I am still a little cautious in my acceptance because if I recall correctly, the document itself was not dated and therefore could have been a petition signed in a previous year as there were many accusations years before. That is the main point of controversy regarding the petition; I have seen arguments for both sides. When I get a chance, I'll try to find the copy of the petition that I have and let you know where I found it. Also, I have no date of death for Hannah, wife of Edward/1 either. 3. The Thomas and Ann PUTNAM who were involved in the Salem Witch trial were Thomas PUTNAM (jr.), son of Thomas PUTNAM & Ann HOLYOKE, and his wife, Ann CARR, along with their daughter, Ann PUTNAM. Since the Salem Witch trials took place after the deaths of Lt. Thomas PUTNAM & Ann HOLYOKE (in 1692, mostly), they could not have been directly involved. There are a number of sites which now have manuscripts of the trial proceedings posted. 3. Rhonda, According to the Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Vital Records: Benjamin and Elizabeth (Haven) NOURSE/NURSE had a daughter, Tamason (VR spelling), born June 7, 1718 [Middlesex Vital Records, Framingham Births, page 150]. John and Elizabeth (Gale) NOURSE/NURSE had a daughter, Thamezin (VR spelling), born August 20, 1716 [Middlesex Vital Records, Framingham Births, page 153]. According to "A Genealogical Register of Framingham Families", by J.H. Temple, page 653, Thamazin (Temple's spelling) the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Gale) NOURSE/NURSE, was born August 20, 1716, and married January 27, 1737, Jedidiah BIGELOW. According to "A Genealogical Register of Framingham Families", by J.H. Temple, page 653, Thamezin (Temple's spelling) the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Haven) NOURSE/NURSE, was born June 7, 1718 and married February 5, 1734, Abner BIXBY. The marriage of Thamesin (VR spelling) and Jedidia BIGLOW (VR spelling), was January 27, 1736-7 in Framingham [Middlesex Vital Records, Framingham Marriages, page 346]. The marriage of Tamazin/Thamasin (VR spelling both ways) and Abner BIXBY was February 5, 1734 in Hopkinton [Middlesex Vital Records-Hopkinton Marriages, page 226] So this answers the question of which Thamazin (my spelling) married Jedediah BIGELOW, but the correct spelling of her name is anybody's guess. 3. David Greene's address or atleast what town he lives in may be at the bottom of the first or last page of any of those American Genealogist articles. I never copied "Part II" and "Part III", since I have no particular interest in the Jacobs and Martin families. If someone could look for me, I'd appreciate it, as I would like to write him for the specifics on that 1692 petition that he alleges bears the signatures of Edward Bishop Sr and Hannah Bishop. One other detail; I checked, Edward Sr's daughter Hannah, who is my direct ancestor, was married to William Raymond Jr well before 1692 and therefore cannot be the Hannah Bishop who signed the petition along with Edward Bishop Sr. Yours, Dora Smith ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [SALEM-WITCH-L] David Greene Bishop article "correction"
    2. Dora Smith
    3. That missing volume of The American Genealogist finally got recovered - it had been misshelved someplace, along with the index to the TAG that everyone firmly thought our library didn't even have! So I now have the "correction" to David Greene's article about the identity of Bridget Bishop's husband. This "correction" is an unusually weighty detail to leave for a "correction". The correction pleads that it isn't Greene's fault, the typist was suffering from "ill health"! Hmm... I am frankly suspicious of it. The correction states that Greene's most important point is that Edward Bishop Sr and his wife Hannah Bishop signed a petition for Rebecca Nurse in 1692, therefore Hannah the first wife of Edward Bishop Sr was obviously still alive and married to Edward Bishop Sr and Edward the husband of Bridgette must have been someone else. Unarguable logic - if it is true. But very strangely, given how carefully Greene documents every point in his article, the correction does not give a source of this petition! Does anyone know of this petition or know the source where it would be? If one or more petitions was circulated relating to Rebecca Nurse, perhaps someone knows where copies of it are where one could check who signed them? I don't have this article handy, but my impression is it just said petition for Rebecca Nurse in 1692, didn't even give the date of this petition (which would more clearly identify it). Also, anyone know how to reach David Greene? It would be quite interesting to write him and ask him! Since Edward Bishop Sr and his first wife Hannah are my ancestors, I recall looking very carefully into what happened to Hannah and being someone puzzled, indeed, I thought that they had divorced since I found no record of her death, and since in that time that was indeed evidence of family instability I actually looked as carefully as I could into what did become of her such that Edward Sr ended up remarried. I do not recall at this time if I ever found any record of her death. Not every death, birth or marriage was recorded, just like the marriage of Bridgette Oliver to Edward Bishop was never recorded though plainly Bridgette Oliver did marry an Edward Bishop. I don't have access to a computer that can read my GEDCOM file where I'm most likely to have written down what I did find, though I can't remember if I updated it! It seems to me I did eventually find something, but I can't remember what. I could probably find the notes in theGEDCOM file though (they view as text on a browser). But does anyone have information on what did become of Hannah? Yours, Dora ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
