    1. [SACKETT] 2012 tentative Sackett business meeting agenda
    2. Greetings all Sackett Family members! As you all are aware of by now, there is a Reunion in the works in less than a months time. Before you delete this as just another plug for the reunion please take a moment to consider the one action that affects ALL Sackett Family members: The business meeting that will take place on Saturday. For any organization to be successful the voices of all the members must be heard. This is your opportunity to bring forth ideas, questions, suggestions and yes, complaints. I have put together a tentative agenda, leaving out here all the necessary minutes, reports from the different committees etc. What is left is simply the OLD and NEW Business. OLD BUSINESS: Plaque for Simon Sackett to be placed at the Old Burying Ground in Cambridge, MA. This topic has been hanging out since the Cambridge Reunion in 2006. If anyone has information about where we are with this, please either forward it to me or someone that will be attending the business meeting. If nothing has happened, or if there is no longer any interest, I suggest we figure out if this is still something that we are interested in doing. NEW BUSINESS: The next SACKETT REUNION Any ideas, suggestions, volunteers? In the past we have chosen sites that were 1) important Sackett Sites 2006 - Cambridge, MA (originally Newtown, MA, of which Simon was a founder) 2008 - Thanet, England , Simon Sackett came from here 2009 - Portland, OR, Sackett History 2012 - Westfield, MA, home to many Sackett ancestors 2) close to research facilities 2003 - Salt Lake City (library) 2004 - Salt Lake City (library) 2006 - Cambridge (NEHGS facility) 2007 - Ft. Wayne, IND (library) 3) piggy backed to other genealogical meetings 2006 - Cambridge, MA CEMETERY RESTORATION. Is there any interest in this? An example is this. In the Warren Cemetery there was a stone for Reuben Sackett. It was broken into pieces and I took a picture of it. Thurmon pieced my pictures together to make a complete picture. When you go there today the pieces are missing. The only way we know that it was there was my picture. I'm wondering if family groups would care to work together to get some sort of restoration project going for their own ancestors. The Association would only work as a framework to help to get individuals together and offer advice, as we gain it. MEMBERSHIP PARTICIPATION. How can we encourage our membership to take a more active part? OTHER - This is your chance to make a difference, help make our organization not just one that has an award winning web site and great people but one that really speaks for you. Hey, thanks for sticking with me through this note and I hope to either see you in September, or hear from you here at home. Debbie Barbee TSFA President

    3. I live in Cambridge, MA, and along with my deceased sister, Mary Lou Sackett, helped with some arrangements for the 2006 reunion in Cambridge, at which the idea for the plaque for Simon Sackett to be placed in the Old Burial Ground in Cambridge was put forward. I agreed to be a local liaison for the effort, but not to take a leading role. Following the reunion, I obtained some information about the procedure for placing such a plaque from the Cambridge Historical Commission, a city agency, which must give its approval, and forwarded that information to the TSFA. Although there was interest in the idea, no one wanted to take the lead. As far as I know, this effort has had no further activity and is on indefinite hold unless someone wants to come forward to take the lead. I think it would be appropriate at the upcoming reunion to make a decision to either drop the idea or not. As long as I'm writing, I'll put out a request--Is there anyone in the eastern Massachusetts vicinity that might be willing to help me, mainly with advice, in dealing with my deceased sister's genealogical materials and data? Although I was interested in her work, I was not closely involved, but I am trying to review it with the plan of donating family history and genealogy documents and other references to one or more libraries and societies. _____________ Lester L. Lester, Would you be able to send the information again? I have a recollection that the information may have gone to Tom Smith. I remember his saying that he had intended to follow up on the project, but had lost sight of it. > ... sister's genealogical materials and data? You may have this in mind already, but the NEHGS in Boston are always keen to take documents, etc. They mail their members frequently with reminders about this. My view is that it would make sense for all Sackett materials, when ready for deposit, to be placed in one depository. We could usefully discuss this at the reunion business meeting. If you are talking to NEHGS, it would be helpful to get any guidelines they may have on procedures for depositing materials. Regards, Chris
