    1. [SACKETT] Samuel Sackett & Thankful Wood

    3. Out of curiosity, I began researching Samuel and Thankful many years ago when I was in college as part of my colonial america history class. I havne't been able to pursue this research due to a demanding work schedule and increase in my family (when I began my research I had one child and now I have three!) I had compared the maps I had from the 1770s to current day GPS maps and was able to guesstimate approximately where Samuel and Thankful's farm was. Based on online cemetery records I was able to ascertain some of their children were buried in a local Baptist graveyard and some were buried in a local Quaker graveyard, Samuel and Thankful and a few of their children are missing from local cemetery records and I believe I read that they were reported to be buried at their farm/homestead - my research led me to believe Samuel and Thankful and/or one or both of their parent's families were Quaker at some point in time either before/during or after the Revolutionary War. My question is if anyone has researched them further or actually been to the Sackett farm in Great Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York. At the time of the Revolution, the land was "Quaker country". They lived somewhere near Amenia aka Ameniaville and Stanford/Stamford. Has anyone been there? I've tried to contact some people (realtors) in New York who might know that particular area to see if there is still a Sackett farm in existance but hav ecome up empty handed. I would LOVE to visit there and find out more. I have no idea why I'm so interested in this particular era of Sackett history but I'm very interested in learning more about Samuel, Thankful and their families (parents and children) - I'm related to his sone Joel. excerpt: "*Samuel Sackett*, son of Joseph Sackett and ___ ___, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1747. He died in Dutchess County, New York, on 20 August 1816. He married in 1767, *Thankful Wood*, daughter of John Wood. Samuel Sackett served in the American Revolutionary War in the 6th Dutchess County Regiment.2In 1767 [Samuel Sackett] was married to Thankful Wood, daughter of John Wood, and in the same year settled on a *250 acre section of Big Nine Partners, in Dutchess County, N. Y., near Huns Lake.*There had been an Indian settlement on the property and a number of their deserted wigwams were yet standing when he took possession. He constructed first, for himself and his bride, a substantial log cabin, but later erected a commodious farm house, in which all but the two oldest of his nine children were born, and all grew to maturity. Gradually, as his children became able to assist him, his wilderness section was transferred into a cleared and exceedingly productive farm, and at his death, which occurred Aug. 20, 1816, he was reputed a man of large means. Several of his children had died previous to his demise and were buried in a family plot on his farm, and there he too was laid to rest. His wife Thankful lived to her 92nd year. In the war of the Revolution he was an active patriot, serving through several campaigns in the Sixth Dutchess County Regiment. By the terms of his will his Dutchess County farm passed to his sons Isaac and Joel. —Weygant, *The Sacketts of America"* * * Children - Hon Jehial Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7621.htm>*+* b. 24 Jul 1768, d. 1822 - Samuel W Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7622.htm>*+* b. say 1770, d. 10 Feb 1845 - James Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7623.htm> b. say 1772 - Hannah Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7624.htm> b. say 1774 - Joel Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7628.htm>*+* b. say 1774, d. 1836 - Phoebe Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7625.htm> b. say 1776 - Polly Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7626.htm> b. say 1778 - Betsey Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7627.htm> b. say 1780 - Captain Isaac Sackett <http://www.sackettfamily.info/g7/p7629.htm>*+* b. 1786, d. 1836 I've found this to be a pretty good resource to supplement my research: Find A Grave <http://www.findagrave.com> For instance: Joel Sackett & Betsey Husted Sackett: Joel Sackett<http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=49607878> Betsey Husted<http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Sackett&GSby=1774&GSbyrel=after&GSdy=1900&GSdyrel=before&GSst=36&GScnty=1991&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=49608018&df=all&> John Sackett<http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Sackett&GSby=1774&GSbyrel=after&GSdy=1900&GSdyrel=before&GSst=36&GScnty=1991&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=23603830&df=all&> current map: Stanford to Amenia, NY (including Hunns Lake)<https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=stanford,+ny&daddr=amenia,+ny&hl=en&ll=41.875952,-73.598099&spn=0.106472,0.154324&sll=41.84926,-73.556792&sspn=0.053258,0.077162&geocode=FX1mfwIdksab-ylX4_Oj-XDdiTFZx-F_nwR_rg%3BFayRfgIdyJyd-ynZFyoManvdiTECX1zuJEBz6Q&t=h&mra=ls&z=13> Any help is appreciated! -- Danielle Otey danielletotey@gmail.com (206) 850-1791 “Grow your world around your friends and family and more family and friends will grow around you.”

    3. By the way, I'm SO confused about these two genealogical records. They're so incredibly similar I'm wondering if Charles was schnockered when he wrote this: (look at the similarties! They were born at a similar time, died at a similar time, had children with similar names....what a nightmare!)
