    3. Mother's uncanny ability The first incidnet I remember of Mother's ability was when we lived on Rock Creek west of Marietta, OK in 1937. It occurred after Dad had bought the 22 cal. rifle for Mother. One morning she went to the barn to milk the cows and returned to the house before she had finished milking all the cows. She loaded the rifle and started watching the barn through the kitchen window. When Donal asked her why she was doing that; she replied: "There is someone in the barn and they were looking at me." Donal asked: "What did they look like?" Mother replied: "I don't know. I didn't see them." Donal asked: "How do you know someone is there? Did they make a noise?" "No, I didn't hear a noise." she said. "But I know someone was looking at me." About that time, two men came out of the barn and headed north up the creek, going away from the house,. There were times after that when Mother would be some place and suddenly she would start looking around to find who was staring at her. But, in my mind, I wasn't sure that she REALLY knew that someone was looking at her. So one evening, after we had moved to Yuma, Arizona, we were all sitting in the living room doing different things. I was reading a book while sitting in in a position to one side and slightly behind Mother. It was then that I decided to see if she could really know when someone was staring at her. So I started staring at her. After a short time she started to act uneasy and started looking around. Before she looked my way, I looked down at my book, pretending to read. When she quit looking around, I started staring at her again ... With the same results. After a few more times of this, Mother began to really get agitated. She even went and looked out the window to see if anyone was out there. Suddenly she said: "There's someone staring at me. And if I find out who it is, I'm going to wring their neck!" Well, now. I had seen Mother wring a chicken's neck and I wanted no part of that proceedure. So I decided that I had better read my book. Thurmon
