    3. -----Original Message----- Sent: Saturday, July 05, 2003 5:25 AM To: siders@cableone.net Subject: Re: membership Dear Nancy, As requested, here is list of my husbands ancestors: John and Agnes Tinkham Sackett Jonathan and Hannah Sackett Richard and Margery Sleade Sackett John and Elizabeth Marten Sackett Benjamin and Phebe Davis Sackett Calvin P. and Hannah Douglas Sackett Oramel A. and Susan Betts Sackett Milford F. and Angeline Young Sackett John W. and Marie Manor Sackett Milford J. and Leona Horger Sackett Rootsweb has my husbands great-grandfather listed as Milton Sackett when it is in fact Milford. I have the 1880 Fulton County, Michigan census. Also his wife Angeline may be listed as Angeline Walters when I believe it is Young. I am very excited about joining your Sackett list. Thank you, Sue Sackett ============================================================ Sue, I hope you don't mind that I have forwarded this to two of the surname lists I manage - SACKETT-L and MCKAY-ELKENNY-L. I personally (and I'm sure several on both surname lists) am VERY excited that you and your husband, John W. SACKETT have joined SACKETT-L!! John SACKETT, The Colonist who married Agnes TINKHAM is our line too! The Benjamin you include above was brother to our ancestor, Mary SACKETT who married Alexander MCKAY. Your husband is one of a very few male lines who have made it on the SACKETT-L list with the surname of any spelling of SACKETT!! Our dear and special Wendy SACKET brings her line down to us, Richard Heath SACKETT brings his line down to us, plus Richard W. SACKETT (snail mail only). That's it! So I imagine Richard Heath just breathed a sign of relief. ;) You see, the one who can be included in the study has to be a male with the last name of SACKETT. I believe I told you about the recent initiation of The Sackett Family Association (TSFA) in my reply to your first inquiry about joining SACKETT-L. We hope you will consider joining as a Founding Member of this currently no-dues association. As time and energy levels of officer's permit, we hope to organize a DNA Group Study to help determine whether of not we are connected to Simon SACKETT, The Colonist and all the generations in England whom Chris and Marion SACKETT of the UK have so diligently been researching. Chris has written a HUGE amount of information entitled the "Where's John Study" that I've never gotten back to him yet but SOME DAY, Chris I will get through it all and respond! Promise! :} So John W. and Sue SACKETT, I bet you never knew you were so important!! :) I don't know how to ask you this politely so I will just blurt it out. ;) Oh, please tell us you have sons!! If not, we will console ourselves, just as we've consoled ourselves in our own lines. It's the way things happen in genealogy. :} When John was born, did his parents know of John, The Colonist yet? So be thinking about the DNA Group Study. There is nothing to it. My brother took the test for our CLUFF line. It's a mere swab of the inside of the cheek of the mouth and mail it in to whatever company we decide to use in the hopefully near future. I know, I know! We have to get the TSFA started first before we take on major project such as a DNA Study. But hopefully within a year or two, a VERY IMPORTANT project for these surname lists is in line to happen and I hope John W. will agree to participate!! We're not putting TOO MUCH pressure, are we? ;) As to your statement that "Rootsweb has my husbands great-grandfather listed as Milton Sackett when it is in fact Milford", I searched WorldConnect, all of Thurmon's sites that I have in my IE Favorites, Chris SACKETT's One-Name-Study web site, SACKETT-L's web site and I did not find a Milton except for Shannon Spencer's family on SACKETT-L's site. Shannon as far as I know (she's no longer subscribed, I believe) never knew anything beyond her Milton SACKETT. So Sue, what is the URL where this "Milton" is stored on the web...? We'll be happy to help correct this if possible. If on WorldConnect, that's beyond our control if not a database of one of our subscribers. Sorry this message got so lengthy but this is a milestone for John, The Colonist descendants on SACKETT-L and for Mary SACKETT descendants on MCKAY-ELKENNY-L!! :) While I have these relatives' attention I thought I'd include some web sources. The Sackett information those of us on the Sackett mailing list have been compiling is found on various websites: SACKETT-L's web site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sidersn/sackett Update to the Subscribers is under construction. I hope to have it finished today or at least tomorrow. You'll find more related URL's at the list's main page* under "Family Web Pages" or go directly to: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sidersn/sackett/sackett_homes.html I see I'll need to work on this page! Some links crash and burn. ;) Thurmon King's web pages on Charles Weygant's book, Sacketts of America that I have in my IE Favorites folders: http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/ The Sacketts of America Genealogical Database Master Index at: http://www.tqsi.com/genweb/king/king.html http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/index.htm http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/orphans.html Specifically directed to John, The Colonist: http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/Weygant/soa_pgs-012-19.html#5 http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/john-2/index.htm and then, Fred Sackett's collection of headstone pictures: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sackettheadstones/ and Chris Sackett's SACKETT One-Name Study www.sackett.org.uk To find our databases at WorldConnect on RootsWeb, go to: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com The easiest way I have found to access the database's is to NOT use the surname search prompts; but to use the "specific database" instead. sackett001, is headed by William Sackett of Jordan Down, c1520-1572. sackett004, is headed by Richard Sackete the elder, c1470-1490-1548/49. sackett007, is headed by Thomas Sackett the elder, c1530-1595/96. sackett008, is headed by John Sackett of Sackett's Hill, c1525-1592. John, The Colonist: sackett009, is headed by John Sackett of New Haven, c1628-1684. Anyone from Simon, The American Colonist may go directly to him at this URL. He is included in sackett007. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sackett007&id=I05 357 Some of the above URL's will more than likely wrap to a second line. You will need to highlight, copy and paste to your browser's Address box anything that goes to the second line to make one complete line. Oh, happy day! I think you can get an idea of how much I love genealogy from this message. :) Later...Nancy Nancy Cluff Siders <siders@cableone.net> Acting TSFA President and List Admin on: CLUFF-L, COUNTRYMAN-L, LETSON-L, MCKAY-ELKENNY-L, SACKETT-L, SIDERS-L To forget one's ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root. ~Chinese proverb
