Dear Sackett Cousins, While doing some research Saturday, I came across the following. I hope it may be of some help to somebody. Both references are from: The Pioneers of Winnebago and Boone Counties, Illinois who came before 1841 Katherine Rowland Gateway Press, Baltimore 1990 I believe this is #1503 Simmons Sackett "Simmons Sackett bought land in New Milford Twp 24 Oct 1839. In a deed dated 28 May 1840, he was ' of Winnebago Co.'" This is certainly a reference to #1227 David Sackett "David Sackett was b. 9 Aug 1804 at Colchester, Chittenden Co., VT., d. 3 May 1880, bur. Garden Prairie Cemetery, m. 1 Jan 1832 Caroline Ames, b. 25 Aug 1810 in VT., d. aft 1860, d/o William and Polly Ames. David came to Dundee, Illinois in 1833 and to Garden Prairie in 1836. He was a builder and a farmer and served as Postmaster. He built the first flour mill and saw mill in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Children 1. Eliza J b. ca 1834 in Mich, d. bef 3 May 1880, m. T.G. Catchpool 2. George W b. ca 1837 in Ill. m. 1867 Fanny E Roper b. 1847, d. 1882 They livid at Santa Clara, Calif. and had 3 children. 3. Emma P b. ca 1842, m.(1) 10 Jan 1860 Albert E Locke; m.(2) 23 Sep 1866 Myron W Poyer. 4. Clarence E b. ca 1848. He was a printer." New Milford Township is just south of Rockford, Illinois. Garden Prairie is in the SE corner of Boone County, southeast of Belvidere. Charlie Ray
