    3. Hi Sackett Searchers: In the pages of Bronson's "History of Tallmadge, Ohio" [sent to me by Maxine Chapin] there is information which indicates an error on the part of Charles Weygant; "The Sacketts of America"; 1907. In his entry for 1513-Leander Sackett, Weygant has: "1513. Leander Sacket, 1794-18__, son of (656) Salmon Sacket and Matilda Curtis, was married in Sept. 1822, to Rebecca Conant, daughter of Thatcher Conant and his wife Elisabeth, of Windham, Conn. The young couple immediately after their marriage set out from Connecticut on a journey, which they made in a wagon, for the western reserve, and settled at Indian Mission, near what is now the village of Waterville, Lucas County, Ohio, and are said to have been the first missionaries to the Indians in that part of Ohio." [Weygant, p. 250] This indicates that Leander Sackett and Rebecca Conant were married in CT. However, Bronson has different information: "Leander Sackett; this man was the 5th child and 3rd son of Dea Salmon Sackett. He came to Ohio with his father's family in 1811, at this time he was 16 years old, ..." "... Mr. Sackett was married on the 3rd of Jan 1821 to Miss Rebecca Conant of Windham, Portage Co., by Rev. Joseph Treat...." [Bronson, p. 103] This information states that Leander arrived in Tallmadge, OH in 1811 with his father's family and that he married Rebecca Conant who lived in Windham, Portage Co., OH at the time of their marriage. An internet search for the history of Portage Co., OH resulted in finding the following information concernint the Conant family and Rebecca Conant: "WINDHAM - 1811 - 1850 "Nearly one hundred years have passed since a few men decided to leave the Berkshire hills and bring their families into the then unbroken forest of the present Windham township, Portage county. Before leaving, however, the following persons were dismissed from the Congregational Church of Becket and organized into a church by themselves: Deacon Elijah ALFORD and wife, Olive ALFORD, with their daughter, Ruth ALFORD, Thatcher CONANT and wife, Elizabeth CONANT, also their daughter Susannah CONANT, Jeremiah LYMAN and wife, Rhoda LYMAN; Benjamin HIGLEY and wife, Sally HIGLEY, Miss Anna STREATOR." "...his was on May 2, 1811..." "They held their first religious service in their new home on Sunday, July 28, 1811, in one of the first private cabins built in Windham [,OH] ..." "However, they were not entirely without educational advantages, as Miss Elizabeth STREATOR and Miss Rebecca CONANT opened a school in a private house about a month after the first settlers came. For about a year these young ladies gave their services, relieving each other every two weeks. One, Rebecca CONANT, afterwards married and went with her husband among the Indians of Michigan as missionary." I believe that this information shows that Weygant was in error in his account of Leander's marriage. We also have a conflict in the dates given for the marriage. Weygant has Sept. 1822 and Bronson has 3 Jan 1821. Does someone have access to Ohio Marriages which might give the correct date? Thurmon
