I found, by accident, something of interest concerning Wm Bloomfield. This may not be new to the list but I have not seen it before. I was going to a monthly Genealogy Group meeting at the Godfrey Library in Middletown, CT on Monday evening when I stopped to read some plaques on the building dedicated to the founders of that town(1654.) It is on the CT River and 25-30 miles south west of Hartford. A Wm Bloomfield was listed on this plaque which I thought quite a coincidence having two WBs in close proximity in the early history of CT. Then I saw, listed on an adjacent plaque, and lining up with William's name, Sarah Bloomfield. You may recall that Wm's wife and daughter were named Sarah. This being too much of a coincidence, I decided to do some checking. I went through some Genealogies on Heritage Quest and it does appear that William Bloomfield was indeed a settler in Middletown, CT, having been introduced to that area during the Pequot Wars when he served with Capt. Mason! . Several references are made to the early settlement of Hartford by the Hooker Group from Cambridge and several Hartford Founders were noted as well, leading me to believe this is the same WB. As I said, this may not be new to the list, but I haven't seen it before. My previous knowledge of WB was that he went to Hartford from Cambridge (Newtown), then to Springfield, MA to settle his daughter Sarah's estate following the death of Simon #2, then to New London, and finally to Newtown, LI, NY by 1663. Although I have seen him mentioned in Hartford court documents between that time and found that hard to reconcile, thinking he was in NY. Perhaps being in Middletown during 1654 accounts for his court appearances. As yet I have found no reference to Isabel, Sarah, or Simon and John Sackett. If there is some interest I will provide citations for what I find. Tom Smith
Good sleuthing, Tom! This is interesting. I recall there was discussion on Sackett-L a while back about the movements of WB. Can't lay my hands on the posts at the moment, but perhaps Thurmon and others will remember what the conclusions were.
