Hello Sackett Searchers: Katherine Russell sent me a note concerning the misinformation circulating which says the Almeron and Rachel were married in South Carolina. "Hi Thurman, Irma and I have found some information that others on the Sackett list might find interesting. Elisha White 1790 Luzerne Co., PA census...Almost positive he is Elisha White, father of Rachel White who married Almeron Sacket. They lived on Sugar Creek. This would probably put them married in PA, since from ages of kids they were married in the early 1790's. Before 1790 I think Almeron was living with his brother William in VT, so that also might be where they were married, but PA looks better. We also have a son in the 1800 census in Tioga PA that is unaccounted for, so if anyone has any Sackett born in the 1790's in this area, could be Almeron's. Elisha White was most likley from CT originally, as he is listed as such in a document with other CT land owners in PA. AGAIN trying to dispel the misinformation that they were married in South Carolina...there is absolutely no proof that the Whites or Almeron Sackett family ever set foot in the Carolina's. Also found at this website...www.http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/carter.html John[Jonathan] Sackett 1756...appears on the list of new members next to Thomas Carter in Warren CT Church of Christ Church. I know you were interested in what religion the Sacketts were. Looks like here it is. I don't know if you have it or not. Also a poem by JOEL FINNEY is on this site, he wrote it after an epidemic that killed off about 6 members of this Carter family. I would appreciate it if you passed this on to the list, as I don't have time anymore to be a member. Katherine Russell" Note: The founding of the church in Warren as the Church of Christ would not be the same as the present denomination known as The Churches of Christ which was formed in the 1800s. Where in Vermont did William live? I have found lots more information in the town records of Vermont for that time period than show up in Montpelier.. I sometimes go over into Vermont and look at records..plan on going to Chittendon Co. fairly soon.
