Page 178 THE MARCHAND FAMILY Dr. David Marchand (1710/1761) or (1719/1761 overtyping on manuscript) was a descendant of the Huguenots who fled to Switzerland upon the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. He was a physician and practiced in the town of Sonvilier, Canton of Berne, Switzerland. He came to America in 1754 in the vessel "Nancy", landing in Philadelphia, Penna. He married in 1744 to Judith Marie (Jacot) Gentle (died 1789). She was a physician also and practiced medicine with her husband in Hagerstown, Maryland. Their son Dr. David Marchand, Jr. (1746/1809) settled at Sewickley, Penna. He married in 1766 Elizabeth Kaemerer (1744/1817). Dr. David Marchand, Jr. was a Surgeon and Captain in the 3rd Company of the 2nd Penna. line of Westmoreland County, Penna., in the Revolutionary War. The children of Dr. David Marchand, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth (Kaemerer) Marchand were: 1. Catherine, born Mar. 8, 1767; married Wm. Shron. 2. Elizabeth, born Nov. 5, 1768; married John Kuhns. 3. Susannah, born Oct. 13, 1770; married Adam Rodebaugh. 4. Dr. Daniel, born Dec. 8, 1773; married Betsy Scott. 5. Judith, born Nov. 12, 1771; married in 1787 Henry Lutzenheiser. 6. Esther, born Aug. 23, 1779?(last digit also typed over) ; married Christian Brenneman. Page 179 The Marchand Family Continued 7. Dr. David Jr., born Dec. 10, 1776; of Westmoreland, Penna. 8. Dr. Louis, born June 23, 1782; died Jan. 11, 1857; married in 1823 to Susannah Sackett, daughter of Dr. Samuel Sackett of Connecticut, who was a surgeon in the Rev. War.
