Hello Sackett Searchers, Back in May-September, 2008 I worked on the family of Commodore Perry Sackett whose father has not been connected to a Sackett line: http://sackettfamily.info/tekdatabase/g63/p63996.htm In my 2008 research, I concluded that Commodore's wife's maiden name was Johnson. I based this conclusion on two census records. 1. In 1880, there was a David C. Johnson and his wife living next door to the Sacketts: 1880 Census, Williamsfield, Ashtabula County, OH SD No. 8; ED No. 28; Page 23 (645C); 12 June 1880 203/208 Johnson, David, W, M, 62, [Head], Farmer, N. Y., N. Y., N. Y. Johnson, Margarett, W, F, 61, Wife, Keeps House, Penn, Scotland, Penn 204/209 Sackett, Comodore, W, M, 34, [Head], Farmer, Ohio, ---, --- Sackett, Martha, W, F, 41, Wife, Keeps House, Penn, Scotland, Penn Sackett, Mary, W, F, 8, Daughter, ---, Ohio/Penn[written over], Ohio Penn Sackett, Mineta, W, F, 4, Daughter, ---, Ohio, Ohio, Penn Sackett, Claude, W, M, 9/12, ---, Ohio, Ohio, Penn Sackett, Clide, W, M, 9/12, ---, Ohio, Ohio, Penn 2. In 1900, it appeared as though Commodore's wife was listed in the household of David Johnson: 1900 Census; Williamsfield Township, Ashtabula, Ohio SD No. 18; ED No. 39; Sheet No. 6A; 20 June 1900 111/111 Johnson, David C., Head/Re, W, M, Sept 18[written over]3, 85?, W, York State, Ireland, Ohio, --- Johnson, Martha, Sister, W, F, Sept 1845, 54, Wd, 24, 6-5, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, --- Sackett, Elmer, GSon, W, M, Mar. 1883, 17, S, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Lowfer For this entry I have the following Note: The designation of Martha as a "Sister" is questionable because the birthplaces of Martha's parents do not match those of the parents of David C. Johnson. The birthplace of Elmer Sackett's mother as Pennsylvania would suggest that Martha was his mother. In the 1910 Census, Elmer was enumerated as a son in the household of Commodore P. Sackett. In 2008, there were not as many records online as there is today so I was unable to do more research into this family. Last week Ted Smith found an item at: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/23095/looking-enything-clyde-sackett-born-1879-twin-ashtabula-ohio and he did some research and sent the new information to me. The new information raised questions about the maiden name of Commodore's wife, Martha; and what happened. First: The birth records for the children of Commodore and Martha; Mary M., b. 18 Apr 1872 (mother: M. E. Hart); Twin daughters Mina B. and Minta D., b. 1 Jun 1876 (mother: Martha E. Hart); Twin brothers Claude Perry and Clyde Perse, b. 4 Sep 1879 (mother: Martha Hart); Elmer Hayden, b. 14 Mar 1882 (mother: Martha Hart). Mina B. does not appear in the 1880 census so it is assumed that she died before 1880. Second: In the 1900 census record given above, Martha Johnson is listed as a "widow" who gave birth to 6 children with 5 living. And Elmer Sackett, age 17 is listed as a grandson of the head of household. Also; in the 1900 census, Commodore is listed as C. P. Sackett who is listed as a "widow" with the children; Minnie D. and a son, C. P. who was the son Claude. Therefore, it would appear that Martha and Commodore were separated, or divorced before 1900. Third: Commodore remarried on 23 Apr 1903 and is listed in the 1910 census and his son Elmer H. age 17 is listed in his household: 1910 Census; Huntsburg, Geauga Co., Ohio Cross Road SD 18; ED 60; Sheet 5A; 28-29 June, 1900 97/98 Sackett, Comodore P., Head, M, W, 66, M2, 7, --, Ohio, Ohio, Connecticut, Farmer, General Farm Sackett, Ellen L., Wife, F, W, 63, M2, 7, 1-0, Ohio, Connecticut, Ohio, Own Income, -- Sackett, Elmer H., Son, M, W, 27, S, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Farm Laborer, Working out Therefore, I have a puzzle concerning the maiden name of Commodore's wife, Martha. I have been unable to find a marriage record in Ohio, or Pennsylvania for a Martha E. Hart and a Sackett. Although Commodore's brother has not been found in the 1900 census, he shows up in South Shenango Twp., Crawford Co., PA in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses. Why did Clyde go to that area to live? I have found a couple of interesting census records that may offer a clue: 1860 > PENNSYLVANIA > CRAWFORD > SOUTH SHENANGO TWP Series: M653 Roll: 1099 Page: 598 Page No. 112; 2 August, 1860; Post Office: Espyville 822/808 Andrew Hart, 68, M, Farmer, Scotland Margrette Hart, 58, F, ---, Penna Margrette Hart, 32, F, ---, Penna May Hart, 29, F, ---, Penna Isabelle Hart, 27, F, ---, Penna Nancy Ann Hart, 25, F, ---, Penna Amanda Hart, 22, F, ---, Penna Martha Hart, 18, F, ---, Penna Emma Watters, 9, F, ---, Penna Wm Hart, 70, M, ---, Scotland 1870 > PENNSYLVANIA > CRAWFORD > S SHENANGO TWP Series: M593 Roll: 1331 Page: 488 Page No. 8; 6 July, 1870; Post Office: Fallowfield 62/61 Hart, Nancy, 37, F, W, Keeping House, Pennsylvania Hart, Martha, 35, F, W, ---, Pennsylvania [probably should be 25] Waters, Mary, 45, F, W, ---, Pennsylvania Waters, Emma, 18, F, W, ---, Pennsylvania Perhaps Clyde Sackett went to South Shenango Twp. to live with, or near, his mother's family. Anyone who has access to records that will help solve this mystery could help solve it. Regards, Thurmon
