Along with Chris' new Blog, I too have reached out to a new mode of technology for the SACKETT family. My family members encouraged me to join Facebook recently. For years I have been hesitant to join these types of social networking sites such as My Space or Facebook due to security issues. Since I joined however, I have discovered that Facebook has a growing number of genealogy-related groups. I also found that you can make your account and groups as secure as you desire. A copy of the Internet Genealogy magazine that I received yesterday has an article entitled "Network Research: Facebook for Genealogists" encouraging the use of Facebook in genealogy research. I decided to create a group on Facebook. For the branches of the SACKETT family who have not connected to Thomas The Elder's family, we could feel a little left out with all the discussions on the SACKETT Mailing List about the English branch. I decided to create a Facebook group for us called SACKETT Road Blocks. This could include of course my John Sackett of New Haven, CT, the Vermont Sackett's, the Wisconsin Sackett's and all unidentified SACKETT descendants everywhere. However, all branches are invited to join. It will be interesting to see where discussions lead, if they lead anywhere. For those who already have a Facebook account, you are most welcomed to join me. Search for "Groups" and then "SACKETT Road Blocks". It's just me right now and I'd love to have folks join me!
