Hello Everyone, First, I have to admit that I have not thoroughly read the postings regarding the Native American cross in the Sackett tree, as I am embroiled in income tax season. I will save the postings and will try to go through them as soon as I can. A few years ago I did try to research such a claim, since I found some correspondence while researching Samantha Sackett ( who married Gideon Cro(w)foot) regarding Native American artifacts. The Cro(w)foots lived in or near the fort which is now Vernon, Vermont and under the Connecticut River as part of Vermont Yankee. The boundary lines of the states changed a few times over the course of history. When it was built it was part of Massachusetts, but later was within the New Hampshire boundaries, and still later Vermont. There were references to Indian attacks and the burning down of the fort, which was later re-built. I believe I made photocopies of the book and will check as soon as I can. I think I gave Thurmon the reference, since a Stephen Cro(w)foot was mentioned as being one of the original fort's builders. The book was part of a Vermont History series and was available through Inter Library Loan. I am sorry I do not have complete details at my fingertips at the moment, but I wanted to add my 2 cents to the thread, before it became stale.
