    1. [SACKETT] Caroline Sackett born IL ca 1841
    2. I have been doing a little research on the descendants of Samuel Sackett (1815-1891), a son of Thomas Sackett and Catherine Chambers. I didn't find information in the Sackett database for a child named Caroline Sackett. Caroline was born in/about 1841 in Illinois. I believe Caroline is the daughter of Samuel Sackett and Syrena/Irene Caroline Goodman Sackett. Syrena/Irene Caroline died in 1841 in Illinois. Possibly she died in childbirth? Caroline Sackett is found with her grandparents Tobias and Rebecca Goodman in the 1850 census living in Keokuk Co., Iowa. Tobias and Rebecca left Iowa in 1865 with a wagon train headed for Oregon. Tobias died in Oregon. Has anyone found anything further on the child, Caroline Sackett? I don't find the Goodman's or Caroline after 1850. Thanks. 3. Hi Alyce, It has been a while since we worked on the family of Thomas Sackett trying to sort out his marriages & etc. I don't have anything for a Caroline Sackett, b. c. 1841 because this is the first I have heard of her. Checking the information I have from the image of a page containing deaths in the family of Samuel Sackett that I received from Cathy Rowland, I see that it has: "Syrena C. Sackett departed this life Jan. 13, 1841." And I didn't have the name of her parents. Therefore, if the Caroline Sackett, age 9 in the household of Tobias and Rebecca Goodman was the daughter of Samuel and Syrena; she would have been born on, or before, Jan. 13, 1841. Due to the fact that Samuel remarried 5 Feb 1843; a baby by his 1st wife would probably have been raised by her grandparents. Looking at the 1850 census for the household of Tobias Goodman, there were Tobias age 59, Rebecca age 59, Tobias jr., age 18 and Caroline Sackett age 9. On the USGenWeb site for Keokuk co, IA is this: http://iagenweb.org/keokuk/census/1854/Jackson.htm 1854 Jackson Township, Keokuk County Iowa State Census PG / LN / LAST-NAME; FIRST-NAME/MI / MALES / FEMALES / VOTERS / MILITIA / ALIENS / TOTAL 4 / 14 / Goodman; Tobias / 2 / 3 / 2 / 1 / -- / 5 >From this it would appear that by 1854 Tobias jr had married and Caroline was still in the household. If you are fairly confident that Caroline was a daughter of Samuel and his 1st wife, I will enter her into the database. It is interesting that Samuel and Margarite named their 2nd daughter Surena Caroline Sackett [b. c. 1854] Thurmon ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 7:33 PM Subject: [SACKETT] Caroline Sackett born IL ca 1841 >I have been doing a little research on the descendants of Samuel Sackett > (1815-1891), a son of Thomas Sackett and Catherine Chambers.
