    3. Alice; Tom Smith contacted Chris Sackett and me concerning David's DNA and your Sackett line as put forth in "The Sacketts of America" First; Using Census data your line traces through Capt. Richard Sackett of Dutchess County, New York. And, Weygant traces Capt. Richard Sackett back to John Sackett of New Haven, Connecticut. However, as Wendy said, Weygant appears to have made some errors concerning the family of Capt. Richard. A.) Weygant had Wendy's ancestor, Skene D. Sackett listed as a grandson of Capt. Richard through a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. Research has shown that Weygant used an abstraction of Capt. Richard Sackett's will which led him to the erroneous conclusion that there was a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. Josiah Crego was Richard's step-son, the son of Richard's wife, Margery L.______ ,by her first husband, Stephen Crego. Therefore, we are uncertain as to the parents of the children ascribed to Josiah Crego Sackett and Miss Douglass. Added to that is the fact that DNA shows that Wendy's line is related to Simon. B.) Weygant has an Aaron Sackett listed as a grandson of Capt. Richard, but doesn't say who his father was. Research by John Sackett and myself has shown that Aaron did not descend from Capt. Richard. David's DNA confirms a connection between your line and the DNA of Sacketts who descend from Simon. Second: The fact that David's line traces back to Capt. Richard shows that Capt. Richard Sackett was related to Simon. However, although I may be alone with this, I am not certain that Capt. Richard Sackett descended from John Sackett of New Haven. Weygant has Richard as a grandson of John of New Haven through John's son, Jonathan Sackett. Jacobus in his "Families of Ancient New Haven" [published a few years after Weygant's book] does not list Richard as a son of Jonathan. And Jacobus has thorough documentation for his work while Weygant is somewhat lacking in his documentation. Therefore, as stated above, David's DNA does show a relationship between Capt. Richard Sackett and Simon Sackett of MA. In my opinion, we will not be certain about a relationship between John of New Haven and Simon until we are able to get a participant in the DNA project who descends from John of New Haven through someone other than Capt. Richard Sackett. 3. Pamela, The DNA project is something The Sackett Family Association (TSFA) started several years ago using Family Tree DNA to help us learn more about our Sackett family connections. Several male Sackett's have provided samples which have helped to make connections that we haven't had definitive proof for yet. If you would like more information about the project you can go to TSFA's website: sackettfamily.info You can also contact our project coordinator, Tom Smith. He is a member of this list and can probably answer your questions better than I can.
