My sister is a librarian in Wichita (and, incidentally, used to work at the library at Pittsburg State University in Crawford County). She looked up Crawford Co. newspapers for that period through the Kansas State Historical Society, and they list only one: The Girard Press, published from July 15, 1871 to December 26, 1872. PSU is probably the best place to get the paper, if they have them back that far, and you might be able to request a copy through interlibrary loan. Hope this is some help...
