I have had my mitrochondrial DNA tested and its from the Indian sub-continent, this is probably true of all Sackett progeny that spent any time in the sub continent xxx On Tue, Jan 22, 2013 at 7:48 AM, Chris Sackett <chris@sackett.org.uk> wrote: > On 21 Jan 2013, at 23:23, bill <sackettbill@pronetisp.net> wrote: > > > Every DNA report I have read, has listed a % of where the DNA came from. > > > > You know, 20% English, 20% Spanish, 20 % French, 20 % African. Every DNA report I have read, has listed a % of where the DNA came from. You know, 20% English, 20% Spanish, 20 % French, 20 % African. ECT. Has this information been posted for the Sacketts's?

I might have made my point better: that the consistency of the dates and age tends to confirm the accuracy of the transcription of what is on the gravestone; i.e. that 12 May is more likely than 2 May. Ted & Debbie, The birth date of 1700 for Patience Sackett came from Weygant's Sacketts of America. Weygant did not give a source. Find A Grave has a transcription of the gravestone inscription, giving a birth date of 12 May 1701: "Sacred to the Memory of Patience Lawrence, wife of John Lawrence, Esqr., and daughter of Joseph Sackett of Newtown, who was born on the 12th day of May, 1701 and departed this life October 24th, 1772; aged 71 years, 5 months and 12 days." The age matches the dates, which helps to confirm the accuracy. I don't find a source for 2 May 1701. Good question, Debbie. Good research usually involves documenting the source of information. If you check Thurmon King's database at http://sackettfamily.info/tekdatabase/g7/p7077.htm , you will see the information that TSFA has. Patience's death information comes from The Annals of Newtown in Queens County, New York, by J. Riker (1852). The text of her will is on that web page. King indicates that she was born in 1700, but no source is cited. The birth and death date for John Lawrence appears to be 9 Sep 1693 and 7 May 1865, again in the database, reportedly from Riker. Now we all know that people can make typographical errors. One can check Riker (1852) to see whether Thurmon correctly copied the date. However, that does not preclude Riker's having made an error. I have sometimes found that an author of some local history reports two different birth dates or birth locations for one individual. For birth dates and locations, the best sources are birth certificates (a fairly modern innovation), a family bible, or a church record. Death records sometimes incorrectly report birth dates and locations. Hello Jean and Dave, Dave has contacted me earlier and I was unable to find anything in my notes that would help. After receiving this note I did a Google search and one of the hits is for the Find A Grave memorial for George Mitchell Phillips http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=70525932 This memorial has the same children listed as the ones I have in the notes for George in the database. It also has a link to the memorial for Susan and her's has a link to a memorial for her husband, William Dudley Baskett. The notes on Susan's and William's memorials have the following note: "In the History of Howard and Chariton Counties, Missouri, 1883, there is a record that William and Susan Baskett were original members of the Friendship Baptist Church. They are most likely buried at Friendship Cemetery." Google Books has "History of Howard and Chariton Counties, Missouri, 1883" among their digitized books. The reference to Susan Baskett and William Baskett is found on page 339: "Friendship church, about six miles north of Fayette, was organized May 9, 1829 by Elders Edward Turner, Ebenezer Rodgers, Thomas Turner, A. N. Bartee and Thomas Todd. The original members were: Benjamin Cook, Polly Cook, Wm. Cornett, Nancy Cornett, John Kirby, John Leach, Jemima Leach, Wm. Baskett, Susan Baskett, Samuel Fields, Elvira Gibbs, John Swetnam, Sarah Swetnam." As can be seen from the list above, the husbands and wives were listed individually. So it appears that William and Susan Baskett were charter members of the church in 1829. That is all that I have found to date. I hope it helps some. Jason, I do not know if this might be helpful, but I found online history of NY books in the Cornell online library. I do not remember the url to access them. But I was able to track Sackett migration on them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <sackett-request@rootsweb.com> To: <sackett@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2013 3:00 AM Subject: SACKETT Digest, Vol 8, Issue 8 > > > Plain digests are sent to users with all posts listed in one long email. > For > most subscribers, MIME digests will appear with all posts as individual > attachments. Lots of Sacketts in that area. Both Judge Joseph and his son John had land there. John's son, also named John, had a farm in the Canterbury section of Cornwall which is mentioned in his will from 1811, purchased from a Ketchum and left to John's sons, including Rev. Nathaniel and his brother Justus. According to Weygant that farm later belonged to Congressman Lewis Beach. When I tried to research it further a few years ago it seemed to be the land called Kenridge farm from the owner who purchased it from Lewis Beach and built large barns there. When the land was threatened by development it was purchased by a preservation group and became the Museum of the Hudson Highlands. The web site they had at the time mentioned Justus Sackett as the last of the Sackett owners in the 1800's. His old farmhouse was part of the museum. Do not know what happened to the museum organization, now only the Kenridge Farm property is listed as part of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. At least it is nice to think the old farm is a nature preserve. Not sure how this might relate to the original question but perhaps it might help someone or at least be interesting as part of Sackett history. This is very exciting news! The address is only 46 miles from Hunns Lake. Thanks, Jenn. I'll forward your response on to Jason, in case he's not monitoring our list. I have received several of these messages. I did open the first one and immediately opened to an ad. The messages usually say "somebody" sackett and then "no subject". The messages had no subject and the content was solely a website address. As far as we can tell, the bug does nothing more sinister than send out bogus messages to a selection of email addresses found in an infected computer's contact list, thus perpetuating itself. To all list members: Several messages have recently been sent to the Sackett mailing list, and sometimes to individual addresses from that list. The messages had no subject and the content was solely a website address. These are likely indicators that the message was generated by a bug that has infected someone's computer, and the sender would likely be unaware of these message being sent. We are contacting the senders in each case to alert them to the problem. As far as we can tell, the bug does nothing more sinister than send out bogus messages to a selection of email addresses found in an infected computer's contact list, thus perpetuating itself. Best advice is to consult your computer shop or technician and ask them to check your computer disks and files. It is also advised never to click on links in emails unless the source of the email is known and the purpose of the link is understood. Jean Carpenter List Administrator, sackett@rootsweb.com
