That does sound like fun, but probably impossible to orchestrate. I'm kind of in favor of Ohio, since that's where my ancestor, Anor, was born. Wherever it is, I'll probably be there! Or, another, equally as odd idea is……. How about arranging the Allen Library as the center hub of the reunion and then have "excursions" to different areas. Some to Ohio, some to Wisconsin or Illinois? I live about 40 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and my husband's Sackett ancestors came through the Canton, Ohio area. Kari Roehl
Hi Sackett Family. I have an idea. Why not make it a traveling reunion where people can join anywhere along the way? The final destination being Allen Library. Maybe map out a "Sackett Trail" from the East Coast to Fort Wayne, Indiana? Not that I know any way to put this together, just thought it sounds like fun. Then the people who want to just go to Indiana can, and people who want to check out things in other places can too. Just a thought. I would love to attend any reunion but they would have to be during school break. Usually between May 25th and August 15th. Kari Roehl
We've never routinely asked for people's locations, and most don't volunteer the information. I'm not sure why anyone would object, but a few years ago when we asked for additional contact information, not many responded. Should we try again? There were thousands of them Chris, a good article in Wiki about it, plus there is a feature length film about the Australian children - around 14,000 went to Canada. I think the article is either Care home or Care children, but if you put orphan transport to Canada and Australia it will come up. Thanks Chirs, I had briefly thought of that but then thought I remembered others being able to send us emails before, probalby when we first set it up. I was suggesting that those wanting to a proposal together so that if there was more than person volunteering the committee could review the options. Either way we should probably start looking into something soon if we are going to be doing one in 2014. It was very common for young children, both boys and girls, that had been placed in orphanages i.e. Dr Barnardo's to be sent as farm children/servants to Canada and Australia in the early 20th century, poverty was great in the UK and families could not afford the children also it might have been the case that after being widowed a woman would remarry and her husband would not keep the children from her first husband. They were sent with just a few bits and pieces, about the age of seven, this happened to the three Bonwick boys in my family who were sent to Canada, the second husband allowed the girls to stay in at the marital home but put the boys in the orphanage. All three boys did well in Canada becoming businessmen in fact their descendents I believe became involved in politics. My greatest joy was being able, through research, to reunite the family left here to their relations in Canada. I had not heard of Barnado's before. A search of the web found a number of sources that mentioned Barnado's homes, including a few that mentioned kidnapping charges. I wonder how widespread the practice was of shipping young girls from England to Canada. --------------------------------- Ted Smith tcsmith@surewest.net -----Original Message----- From: Chris Sackett Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 1:37 PM To: Sackett Family Mailing List Subject: [SACKETT] A special day for Ivy Sackett Ivy Florence (Sackett) Alger celebrates her 106th birthday today. My Sackett family comes from Wisconsin. There are still so many cousins living in and around Appleton/New London. I would love to see a reunion take place in that vicinity. It is also not too far for the Michigan and Illinois Sacketts to travel. -----Original Message----- From: sackett-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sackett-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Thurmon Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 2:54 PM To: sackett@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SACKETT] Next Reunion To add to what Liesa said, I would remind everyone of the history of our reunons. The TSFA organizing meeting took place in Salt Lake City in 2003 and it was decided there that the reunions would be every two years. The idea was to rotate the reunions to different areas of the country, and the world, to allow various members the opportunity to attend. The first was scheduled for 2004 in Salt Lake City. The second was scheduled to be in the eastern part of the US and was held in 2006 in Boston, MA. The 2008 reunon was scheduled to he held in England. In each of the reunons held thus far, I have managed to attend all except the one held in England. At each reunion, there have been those who have attended the reunion held in their part of the country, but have only attended that one. That was the idea behind rotating the reunons to different areas of the country, and the world. Those here in the US who could not afford to attend the reunon in England scheduled a reunon to be held in 2007 so that it would not conflict with the reunon in England. It was held in Fort Wayne, IN. Mary Lou Sackett did the organizing for that reunon. The 2010 reunion was held in Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA. Kathryn James volunteered and did the organizing for that reunon. The 2012 reunion was held again Massachusetts. This time in Westfield. Sharon and Debbie did the planning for that reunion. According to the original plan, the 2014 reunion would be either in the Mid-West, or England. Liesa raised a good question as to how we define East, Mid-West and West in our country. I remember visiting our daughter's in-laws in central Pennsylvania and her father-in-law said something about having made a trip "out west." When I asked him where he went out west; he responded: "Ohio." On the other hand, those of us who have lived near the west coast most of our lives will refer to Kansas City as being "back east." Maybe it would be better to define areas of the United States by time zones; Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific. Maybe Mountain and Pacific time zones could be combined. In the original plan there was one thing that given as a consideration for the location of a reunon. That was the availability of research facilities in the location, or area, where the reunion was to be held. Although, my personal interest in attending the reunions has been to meet those who attend the reunons. Stuart Strothman, author of "Sackett", is talking about his book at Guilford Historical Society, VT, on Sunday. See http://www.reformer.com/ci_23000111/guilford-historical-society-hosts-program-strothman-rsquo-s Those of us at the Westfield reunion had the pleasure of meeting Stuart then. I, for one, enjoyed the book. There is more at http://www.sackettfamily.info/stuartstrothmanbook.htm Chris Sackett

Just out of curiosity I looked on Google for what is considered the West and it covers more then 1/3 of the country the states are: AK, HI, CA, OR, WA, ID, NV, MT, WY, UT, AZ, CO,& NM. I am not sure at this point if anything has been picked but we have had it in the North East Twice already and I think the second one included some Sackett Harbor with it, not sure as I couldn't make that one.
